SACRAMENTO, (AP) -- A federal judge Wednesday rejected automakers' lawsuit against California, saying the state has the authority to regulate greenhouse gas emissions from vehicles.
The ruling by U.S. District Court Judge Anthony Ishii clears one of the hurdles in California's effort to regulate tailpipe emissions from cars, trucks and sports utility vehicles.

I have a question regarding this whole “greenhouse gas” regulation thing:
Will one of the side effects of these regulations necessarily mean higher gas mileage, or are we talking about something else?
In other words, is one of the side effects of the insanity of “counting carbon” actually using less imported oil?

I would love to see automakers refuse to sell cars there. Let the idiots drive to Nevada or Oregon to buy vehicles.
To: SmithL
Now the auto industry can quit selling their products in California.

it is california’s right to regulate what it wants... the constitution is clear... those not enumerated or restricted to are left to the states or the people...
the people will suffer and the state will be the big loser in the long run... i wouldn’t put up with it long and leave... then the rising taxes and lower population will bring down the house of carbon credits...
too bad there are no real leaders anymore.

They'll ban the automobile. That's the only way to reduce CO2 emissions.

Without oil and gasoline the people of the United States would starve, freeze, die of heat and many other things. There would be no food and no way to get to the store and if you had a horse the store would not have food because there would not be gasoline to deliver the food.
If we go back to living as out ancestors did in the 1500s then we need to raise out own food and their will not be any way to store it as the freezer and frig will not work without electricity and there will not be any electricity without oil, or gas.
So it the idiots in California want to kill the people living there then that is their business.

It is clear to see the reasons behind the dumbing down agenda of the public schools.
Not that anyone remembers, but the catalytic converter manufactures CO2, just like it was intended to do.
We would reduce CO2 emissions by billions of tons if we remove them. How about that?

Ah, but does the law also compel manufacturers to sell vehicles in California? Yes, it is a big market and most companies will decide to play there, but somewhere there is a point where the ROI just won’t justify it.

California could reduce a good deal of its CO2 immissions on its on without forcing the rest of the country to bear the cost of its polution problem. Two suggestions for California lawmakers:
1. Raise the tax on gasoline by $2.00 a gallon. It has been proven that higher gas prices result in less consumption. The only way to reduce CO2 from combustion engines is to consume less gas.
2. Stop breathing. All the CO2 that the California legislature exhales would then never again polute the air, and the whole country would be better off!
