The people who complain about waterboarding are actually the same people who complain about the completely justified and well-deserved bombings of Dresden, Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

(Why is it that so many self-proclaimed "Constitutionalists" know so little about the Constitution?)

And yet remain silent on gas chambers in concentration camps, the London Blitz and similiar atrocities.

“critics say it can result in long-lasting psychological damage”
They also say leaving these guys in Guantanamo leaves long lasting damage. Barking dogs, underwear on the head, serving chardoney above 49 degrees causes long lasting psychological damage.
They never mention that strapping a bomb to themselves causes long lasting psychological damage too.

Those who say let’s do evil so that good may come of it are justly condemned.

It merits unequivocal and unhesitating condemnation."

Some are, but many are not. Many who admire or even revere FDR and/or Truman detest Bush. Think of Jimmy Carter, for example.

The people who complain about waterboarding are actually the same people who complain about the completely justified and well-deserved bombings of Dresden, Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Those people would appear to have some consistency in their logic. On the other hand, those that believe the use of WMD's on Japanese cities and the wholesale destruction of Dresden were justified and "well-deserved" are the same people who are shocked and mystified when the US is attacked in such an indiscriminate manner. They would believe that nothing could possibly justify that kind of slaughter of innocents. An inconsistent logic.
