I seem to recall that scorpions in the home are somewhat of an annoying problem in SW areas of the U.S.
Do people there put black light nightlights in their homes so the little creatures are illuminated?
I’d hate to get up in the middle of the night and step on one of those things while going to the bathroom if I lived in that part of the country...

Yep, they sell flashlights now for just that purpose. People in the southwest US coexist with scorpions like the rest of the US does hornets. They are not usually deadly but are a really painful annoyance.

Three nights ago my son was up in the middle of the night to get a glass of water. Stepped dead-on a scorpion in bare feet.
Now *I* wouldn't sleep for a week, would wear shoes every waking moment for about a year (might even wear shoes while I was sleeping) and would have the eebie-geebies and nightmares until I was forty or so if such a thing had happened to me.
*He* found it amusing.

For me in Texas, it was more an issue of remembering to shake out my shoes before putting them on, the don't hang out in the open much, they crawl under rugs and things like that, which can make taking a bath .... entertaining at best.... I put them in a jar and let em go outside, I mean really, what do you do with them, they are not exactly conducive to squishing like the bugs they are..... BIG mess, Garbage disposal I suppose, but that has its own problems... so yea, catch n release... But glow in the dark p kitties, now that would be handy.... Oops interesting.

I just moved from Arizona to Minneapolis, and yes, there is a scorpion problem down there.
To tie the ends of this thread together neatly, I should point out that cats are immune to scorpion toxin. I saw "grey_whiskers' get stung right in the face by a scorpion with no ill effects.
That, and we would often come downstairs to find scorpion pieces by the food dish / water bowl in the morning.
As far as the "glow in the dark", what else can I say but this?
Cheers!
