TOPEKA | Responding to calls for his resignation, Kansas Attorney General Paul Morrison asked Tuesday for an independent investigation of allegations of professional misconduct surrounding a sex scandal.
Morrison said he would ask Stanton Hazlett, Kansas disciplinary administrator, to look into accusations by Linda Carter that he used her to meddle with cases in the office of Johnson County District Attorney Phill Kline.
Hazlett, who works under the state Supreme Court, investigates ethical complaints involving lawyers.
It is essential that the people of Kansas have confidence in the office of attorney general, Morrison said in a statement.
Morrison has admitted having an affair with Carter but has denied other allegations, including harassment. He has said he wont resign.
As an employee of the states judicial system, Hazlett is independent of the Legislature, the attorney generals office and Gov. Kathleen Sebelius. The administrators office routinely investigates allegations of lawyer misconduct and can recommend disciplinary actions such as censure and disbarment to the Supreme Court.

The disciplinary administrator has already been informed of these allegations and the attorney general likely knows this, Kline spokesman Brian Burgess said in a prepared statement. Furthermore, the disciplinary administrator does not have criminal or civil jurisdiction.
Looks like Morrison is trying to put a good face on the fact that he got reported for an ethics violation.
Paul Morrison/Phill Kline Ping!
I guess he will not be leaving anytime soon.
Morrison has already admitted the affair. Doing it in the office, on work time, and during work related travel is enough to get fired in the private sector.
If he lies to his wife, why would he not lie to you & me?
You and I are on the same page. From a different Morrison thread.
