This smear piece on Huckabee is meant to be deceiving. Many people who responded seem to think (as was intended no doubt) that Mike is asking this question in an op ed piece that he wrote. However this quote from the AP story suggests that the question Mike asked was in response to another question:
“The article, to be published in Sunday’s New York Times Magazine, says Huckabee asked the question after saying he believes Mormonism is a religion but doesn’t know much about it.”
I suspect that a reporter asked Mike how his Christian beliefs differ from Mormonism. He responded honestly and off the cuff.
Some people are so Heavenly, they’re just no Earthly good.
These threads on Romney and Huckabee, among many other threads on many other topics, topics not even remotely a discussion of religion, often degenerate into heated, angry and uncivil arguments over religious doctrine and the finer points of the specific doctrines and dogmas of the many and varied Christian denominations.
The overriding theme among many posters seems to be I am right. You are wrong. What I believe is true and the One and Only Truth and is not to be disputed. If you dont believe exactly as I do, then you are (variously), a member of a cult, an atheist, misguided, unsaved, going to Hell, un-Christian, not a real Christian, or conversely a bigot, etc., etc., etc.
You will get no argument from me as to whether you or anyone else is right or wrong with respect to what they believe or dont believe about The Creator. I support your right to believe as you choose and your freedom to express it. I also support the rights of others to disagree with you. From the Founding Fathers and American Revolutionaries to the thousands upon thousands of men in uniform; so many risked and gave up their life so you could have the right to argue and disagree and not be jailed or persecuted for your religious beliefs. Isnt Freedom a beautiful thing?
Why is it that this ideal lost on so many?
The Founders were predominately Christian (with a few leaning decidedly Deist) but they were of many different denominations and sects and certainly the Calvinist, the Unitarian, the Episcopalian, the Quaker, the Congregationalist and the Catholic, while all Christians with many beliefs in common, did not all share exactly the same beliefs and Biblical and spiritual interpretations.
But they put aside their denominational differences and came together to forge the most perfect form of Government ever the American Republic.
Our Country is at war and we are facing serious issues, domestic and foreign and the future and direction this nation will take is at stake with this election.
If one wants to apply a purely religious litmus test for or against a candidate, then that is their right to follow their heart and conscience. But when we lose site of what is really important like preserving the Republic and the Constitution and our Liberties and Freedoms and instead fall into arguments about how many angels can sit on the head of pin, then we Conservatives risk becoming silly and irrelevant and do great dishonor to so many who gave us so much.
Can we (and all the candidates) stick to the real issues in this election and move discussions and arguments about religious doctrine to its appropriate place the Religion Thread?
Huckster is a loose cannon, an unprincipled flake. He should be running as a Democrat
And his religious compassionate conservative ideas are screwball especially on the immigration invasion
just more proof that Gomer Huckabee is a “useful idiot” whose sole purpose is to protect left wing rudy.
Who cares when it comes to a Presidential candidate?
This hamhanded and clumsy attempt to attack Mitt Romney for his religion is the kind of missteps that will guarantee that Mike Huckabee will not be the Republican nominee.
Anyone who makes boneheaded statements like that is playing into the hands of Hitlery and the MSM.
Whatever happened to not speaking ill of another republican??
Divide and conquer, just what liberals and Rino’s want. Good job Huckabee. Lost my vote, dude.
This is demagoguery just like so many ...even conservatives ...do over race sensitivity.
If Huckabee was a Christian and understood the US Constitution,
he would know that there is no religious test for office.
Ok...I’m going with Thompson/Hunter.....
Huck-a-be-an-idjit!!!
What does Hillary believe about Jesus and Satan?
I don’t see why so many people are so offended by this question.
In his lust for power, Huckabee has lost sight of the lovingkindness of Yah'shua.
This helped me...
We are made in God’s image. We have a mind, a body, a spirit. We cannot separate any of these from the others and still function properly as one, but God could. Doesn’t answer the “how,” but I think this is possible for God.
