Republican presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee, an ordained Southern Baptist minister, asks in an upcoming article, "Don't Mormons believe that Jesus and the devil are brothers?"
The article, to be published in Sunday's New York Times Magazine, says Huckabee asked the question after saying he believes Mormonism is a religion but doesn't know much about it. His rival Mitt Romney, the former Massachusetts governor, is a member of the Mormon church, which is known officially as the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
The authoritative Encyclopedia of Mormonism, published in 1992, does not refer to Jesus and Satan as brothers. It speaks of Jesus as the son of God and of Satan as a fallen angel, which is a Biblical account.
A spokeswoman for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints said Huckabee's question is usually raised by those who wish to smear the Mormon faith rather than clarify doctrine.
"We believe, as other Christians believe and as Paul wrote, that God is the father of all," said the spokeswoman, Kim Farah. "That means that all beings were created by God and are his spirit children. Christ, on the other hand, was the only begotten in the flesh and we worship him as the son of God and the savior of mankind. Satan is the exact opposite of who Christ is and what he stands for."
Romney did not respond to a request for comment.
Earlier this month in Iowa, Huckabee wouldn't say whether he thought Mormonism rival Romney's religion was a cult.
"I'm just not going to go off into evaluating other people's doctrines and faiths. I think that is absolutely not a role for a president," the former Arkansas governor said.

LOL!
Amen, my thoughts exactly. Huck knows *exactly* what he’s doing here and it’s pretty despicable stuff.
Note: I am in no way a Mitt fan, but with nonsense like this, how can anyone on FR possibly support this guy?! It’s not like this is an isolated incident of questioning someone else’s faith.
He has a son who will play the role of Billy Carter quite nicely.
Arrested recently for trying to board an airplane with a loaded gun in his bag.
He plum forgot.
I have too, and they were either put in the Smokey Backroom or deleted, and the posters were not running for president.
I see...
That is what Hillary would do in the general against Mitt.
Our best hope at this point is that somehow folks in Iowa see what an a****** Huckabee is and support FDT to the extent that he has a surprise showing which provides him momentum in New Hampshire.
At this point I’d take even McCain over Huckabee. Maybe Ron Paul is behind all of this lunacy? No, that couldn’t be... that would mean that Ron Paul would need a cogent thought process to plan such deviousness.
and at times, dumber than a box of rocks.
I remember Jimmy Carter's presidency. One was enough for all of Time.
Didn’t he also call someone a “F-ing Jew Bastard” once?
oh no wait... that was HilLIARy
I don’t think much of Mormon religious tenets, but virtually all of the Mormons whom I’ve had the privilege of knowing have been fine upstanding individuals. If Huckabee’s gets this hot about another religion, then he will not get my vote. A pox on the Republicans for producing such a sorry list of candidates. What’s wrong with our country? Such dolts on both sides. Where are our Teddy Roosevelts, Trumans, Reagans?

"Mormon theologian Bruce McConkie states, "The appointment of Jesus to be the Savior of the worlds was contested by one of the other sons of God. He was called Lucifer, son of the morning. Haughty, ambitious, and covetous of power and glory, this spirit-brother of Jesus desperately tried to become the savior of mankind.""

Find out if what he says is true THEN call him an idiot if he was wrong.
I shouldn’t have to train Republicans on how to figure out the truth.
Sheesh. Not a very Christian thing to posit. Indeed, borderline mean and underhanded, IMHO...
Probably out earning a living.
I agree.
Compared to Huckabee, McCain is downright dreamy.
Just can’t leave well enough alone. Why would he want to make Mit’s problem HIS problem?
Consider the source.
You’re right on the money there.
Here I will make it easy:
Jesus and Lucifer are NOT brothers and anyone who says they are brothers is an apostate liar. Anyone who is a Christian agrees with that.
There, fixed for Mr Huckabee.
I was going to read the rest of the article but I am ticked now. Huck could have gotten the answer to that question BEFORE writing a NYT article. He is as freaking slimy as I’ve seen, Charles K was really right on about him.
it is tacky, way below the belt, and should be the end of him if he goes through with it.
