Huckabee asks if Mormons believe Jesus, devil are brothers
AP ^ | December 12, 2007

Republican presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee, an ordained Southern Baptist minister, asks in an upcoming article, "Don't Mormons believe that Jesus and the devil are brothers?"

The article, to be published in Sunday's New York Times Magazine, says Huckabee asked the question after saying he believes Mormonism is a religion but doesn't know much about it. His rival Mitt Romney, the former Massachusetts governor, is a member of the Mormon church, which is known officially as the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

The authoritative Encyclopedia of Mormonism, published in 1992, does not refer to Jesus and Satan as brothers. It speaks of Jesus as the son of God and of Satan as a fallen angel, which is a Biblical account.

A spokeswoman for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints said Huckabee's question is usually raised by those who wish to smear the Mormon faith rather than clarify doctrine.

"We believe, as other Christians believe and as Paul wrote, that God is the father of all," said the spokeswoman, Kim Farah. "That means that all beings were created by God and are his spirit children. Christ, on the other hand, was the only begotten in the flesh and we worship him as the son of God and the savior of mankind. Satan is the exact opposite of who Christ is and what he stands for."

Romney did not respond to a request for comment.

Earlier this month in Iowa, Huckabee wouldn't say whether he thought Mormonism — rival Romney's religion — was a cult.

"I'm just not going to go off into evaluating other people's doctrines and faiths. I think that is absolutely not a role for a president," the former Arkansas governor said.

I thought Big Foot was one of the three Nephites. There have been recent sightings. I guess we’d better be careful. ;-)

Since when does disagreeing with folks over their religion automatically mean one is bigoted.

This is demagoguery just like so many ...even conservatives ...do over race sensitivity.

It is important in the Christian faith to acknowledge that Christ is Lord. He is God Incarnate. Jesus cannot be held as a separate being from God.

If you turn to Mormon "scriptures"...the Pearl of Great Price- Joseph Smith - History, verses 18 & 19...it says ALL the "Christians sects" are "wrong." It says ALL our "professors" (those who profess our doctrines) are "corrupt." It says ALL our "creeds" are an "abomination before the Lord."

If you turn to many Nephite passages in the Book of Mormon it describes a "great and abominable church" which it also labels as the "great whore." In one passage it says there's ONLY two churches--the church of the Lamb (which the LDS says is their church alone) and the church of the devil (the rest of the churches combined under the auspices of the devil).

Are you trying to tell me these passages are full of "love" by Mormons toward Protestant, Catholic and Orthodox churches?

CALL FREEPERS JIHADISTS ALERT!

The Middle East has their jihadist fundamentalists. Christianity also has theirs. Ours don’t try to cut peoples’s heads off, but ours tries to discredit, attack character, smear, and embarrass.

WHO is trying to dfiscredit, attack character, smear and embarass other FReepers on this thread, Mormon broncobilly?

Well, I just got done posting the following to gathersnomoss:

If you turn to Mormon "scriptures"...the Pearl of Great Price- Joseph Smith - History, verses 18 & 19...it says ALL the "Christians sects" are "wrong." I concluded with: Are you trying to tell me these passages are full of "love" by Mormons toward Protestant, Catholic and Orthodox churches?

So I guess I'll just have to add Broncobilly's latest comment: The Middle East has their jihadist fundamentalists. Christianity also has theirs. onto the heap of "love vibes" that LDS have expressed toward Christians for 177 years!!!

I would hope that Joseph Smith thought that all other churches are apostate. There would be no reason for the LDS church to exist. It is not just another Protestant church. It is catholic.

Yep, the Mormons are all so loving and accepting of Protestants and Catholics.....

“for they were all wrong; and the Personage who addressed me said that all their creeds were an abomination in his sight” (Joseph Smith History 1:19).
When the light came to me I saw that all the so-called Christian world was grovelling in darkness” (Journal of Discourses 5:73).

“The Christian world, so-called, are heathens as to the knowledge of the salvation of God” (Journal of Discourses 8:171).

“With a regard to true theology, a more ignorant people never lived than the present so-called Christian world” (Journal of Discourses 8:199).

And some more recent quotes from the good loving Mormon leaders.

“The gods of Christendom, for instance, are gods who were created by men in the creeds of an apostate people. There is little profit or peace in serving them, and certainly there is no salvation available through them” (A New Witness for the Articles of Faith, pg.545).

“For instance: The creeds of apostate Christendom teach untruths about God, and the scriptures say that those who accept these creeds ‘have inherited lies.’ (Jer. 16:16-21.) Those who accept any of the doctrines of the apostate churches are said to ‘believe a lie.’ (2 Thess. 2:1-12.) The process of apostasy consists in changing ‘the truth of God into a lie.’” (Mormon Doctrine pg. 440).

The verse you quote from Proverbs 8 is incomplete and misleading. The verse is stated in the voice of the caharteristic of “Wisdom” or logic.

The verse begins:

1 Doth not wisdom cry? and understanding put forth her voice?

2 She standeth in the top of high places, by the way in the places of the paths.

3 She crieth at the gates, at the entry of the city, at the coming in at the doors.

4 Unto you, O men, I call; and my voice is to the sons of man.

5 O ye simple, understand wisdom: and, ye fools, be ye of an understanding heart.

6 Hear; for I will speak of excellent things; and the opening of my lips shall be right things.

7 For my mouth shall speak truth; and wickedness is an abomination to my lips.

8 All the words of my mouth are in righteousness; there is nothing froward or perverse in them.

9 They are all plain to him that understandeth, and right to them that find knowledge.

10 Receive my instruction, and not silver; and knowledge rather than choice gold.

11 For wisdom is better than rubies; and all the things that may be desired are not to be compared to it.

12 I wisdom dwell with prudence, and find out knowledge of witty inventions.

13 The fear of the LORD is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate.

14 Counsel is mine, and sound wisdom: I am understanding; I have strength.

15 By me kings reign, and princes decree justice.

16 By me princes rule, and nobles, even all the judges of the earth.

17 I love them that love me; and those that seek me early shall find me.

18 Riches and honour are with me; yea, durable riches and righteousness.

19 My fruit is better than gold, yea, than fine gold; and my revenue than choice silver.

20 I lead in the way of righteousness, in the midst of the paths of judgment:

21 That I may cause those that love me to inherit substance; and I will fill their treasures.

22 The LORD possessed me in the beginning of his way, before his works of old.

23 I was set up from everlasting, from the beginning, or ever the earth was.

24 When there were no depths, I was brought forth; when there were no fountains abounding with water.

Clearly, this is reference to wisdom and logic, in other words, The Law. The concept is that of right and wrong, not that God has brother gods in their own universes and sits on a planet called Kolob and makes star babies with his god wife.

Its wrong to attack his religious beliefs

So the mere mention of one of the LDS doctrines constitutes an "attack?" And it is "not attacking" to help the LDS church keep their deep-dark secret doctrines still secret? If the LDS church doesn't believe Jesus and the Devil are brothers, it should come out and refute Huckabee. If it DOES believe that, then it is legitimate for Huckabee to mention it. Being a presidential candidate doesn't preclude him from having the freedom of speech.

you cannot find any other way to attack him rather than attacking his policy's/views

I haven't attacked Romney on his religious beliefs. In fact, if he becomes the nominee, I will vote for him. But I still reserve the right, as should everyone else, to bring his religious beliefs into the light of day. What is the LDS church afraid of? That people will discover what they actually believe?

Is the republican party going to render every candidate irrelevant by sniping each other while the rats (and Dopra) cruise to the white house

A candidate makes himself MORE relevant by highlighting the differences between himself and his opponent, not less. Besides, the Clinton campaign is in full melt-down mode. And it will be easy to beat the leftist, Obama (rhymes with Osama).

“The epitome of your ignorance and disrespect is your repeated reference to Mormon garments. I have explained how all religions use symbols and articles of clothing to remind them of sacred covenants with God. That is not superstition or harm to others.”

But of course you leave out the widespread believe that those garments are imbued with magical powers to thwart evil - which does make them an object of superstition. On this and so many other subjects, just telling the truth ends up being a form of mockery. Like the fact that Joseph Smith translated the Book of Mormon looking through an opaque peepstone into his hat (the gold tablets not even present), I mean, that kind of stuff mocks itself.

But even when I present documents detailing, for example, how Smith viewed himself as a tinpot general who brought much grief onto his own Mormons by inciting the Danites, well I am still called a liar, a bigot, etc. So remain in your bubble BB, you are a lost soul.

“The fact that you can mock others on such things tells the world about you, and it is not pretty.”

I feel pretty
Oh so pretty
I feel pretty and witty and gay
And I pity
Any girl who isn’t me today
I feel charming
Oh so charming
It’s alarming how charming I feel
And so pretty
That I hardly can believe I’m real

So now the Mormons are Pharisees? But if it is by their fruits that you know them, then look at Mississippi where the divorce rate is sky-high and illegitimacy almost the norm and abortion quite common, even though the state has lots and lots of professing Christians. I’m not picking on that state. Mitt Romney’s state is forty per cent. Catholic; yet gay marriage is established and abortion is an entitlement. Faith is as faith does."Faith without good works is dead. I am more included than most to think that theology determines morality, but even the Apostle Paul was worried about the disconnect between profession and performance. What is in our minds is often not in our heart.

We are talking about spirit child that is what an angel is, man was made a little less than.

Jesus was the Only begotten Son of God when born in the flesh no other spirit child was born that way.

God is the Father of all our spirits even though Jesus was the only one begotten by the Father in the Flesh.

Jesus was always greater than the rest of the spirit children but of the same substance.

Who are the Jihadists? That is easy to answer.
Are Colofornia, FastCoyote, colorcountry, Zakeet, P-Marlowe trying to attack attack Mormon teachings and embarrass Mormons, and Mormons trying to defend themselves, or is it the other way around? Even a fool can see it is the former. And because of that, the Jihadists do more damage to themselves than they do to the Mormons. Keep up the good work.
