Republican presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee, an ordained Southern Baptist minister, asks in an upcoming article, "Don't Mormons believe that Jesus and the devil are brothers?"
The article, to be published in Sunday's New York Times Magazine, says Huckabee asked the question after saying he believes Mormonism is a religion but doesn't know much about it. His rival Mitt Romney, the former Massachusetts governor, is a member of the Mormon church, which is known officially as the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
The authoritative Encyclopedia of Mormonism, published in 1992, does not refer to Jesus and Satan as brothers. It speaks of Jesus as the son of God and of Satan as a fallen angel, which is a Biblical account.
A spokeswoman for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints said Huckabee's question is usually raised by those who wish to smear the Mormon faith rather than clarify doctrine.
"We believe, as other Christians believe and as Paul wrote, that God is the father of all," said the spokeswoman, Kim Farah. "That means that all beings were created by God and are his spirit children. Christ, on the other hand, was the only begotten in the flesh and we worship him as the son of God and the savior of mankind. Satan is the exact opposite of who Christ is and what he stands for."
Romney did not respond to a request for comment.
Earlier this month in Iowa, Huckabee wouldn't say whether he thought Mormonism rival Romney's religion was a cult.
"I'm just not going to go off into evaluating other people's doctrines and faiths. I think that is absolutely not a role for a president," the former Arkansas governor said.

" Next is this, "And also the testimony of eight witnesses. Be it know unto all nations, kindreds, tongues and people unto whom this work shall come, that Joseph Smith,Jun., the translator of this work, has shown unto us the plates of which hath been spoken, which have the appearance of gold and as many of the leaves as the said Smith has translated we did handle with our hands; and we also saw the engravings thereon, all of which has the appearance of ancient work and of curious workmanship. And this we bear record of with words of soberness, that the said Smith has shown unto us, for we have seen and hefted, and know of a surety that the said Smith was got the plates of which we have spoken. And we give our names unto the world, to witness unto the world that which we have seen. And we lie not, God bearing witness of it. Christina Whitmer, Jacob Whitmer, Peter Whitmer, Jun., John Whitmer, Hiram Page, Joseph Smith, Sen., Hyrum Smith, Samuel H. Smith. "
" And when I am far on the road to conviction and eight men. be they grammatical or otherwise come forward and tell me that they have seen the plates too, and not only seen those plates, but hefted them, I am convinced. I couldn't feel more satisfied and at rest if then entire Whitmer family had testified. "
Could he possibly be more stupid? And in a NYT’s interview?
jesus-juice ..?
Never heard of it..
I’ve put in more than three minutes. But like I said on another thread, if Huck gets the nomination he loses the general, and I can’t see a way that he can win in November.
Comments like this Mormon one show his inexperience on the national stage, and if Jesus really is his campaign manager He’d better have a long meeting with the candidate.
Give me a break! If someone asked you if you were having sex with your father would you say, "It's just a question"?
Early Mormon teaching was that Jesus and Lucifer were brothers. Lucifer’s plan for redeeming the human race was rejected by Elohim, the head of the council of gods. Jesus’ plan was accepted. I don’t know whether the LDS church still teaches this, however.
Are you stupid??
I asked a question. I didn’t say I believed it.
See how it works?
huckabee is slick... but not slick enough to win the general election... the MSM would vivisect the guy... plus, I detect a certain innate unprincipled meaness within Huck that is generally associated with certain “true believers”... these kind of folks will smile and tell you how much they and Jesus love you, while inside they “know” that you are going to hell in a handbasket and that they are “better” than you... they justify lying to your face BECAUSE you’re going to hell in a handbasket and they are saved by God All Mighty with whom they have a special one-on-one relationship to the extent that they have Him on their personal speed dial while you have to settle for His voicemail... this guy would be a hoot if it wasn’t so dang serious a subject matter... Huckabee is our Jimmah Carter but without out brother Billy (at least not yet!)
I’m pretty much a broken glass Republican but this guy is an idiot.
Just doing the job Hillary's waiting to do.
I think he’s kinda likeable, kinda folksy, a good decent man...
and at times, dumber than a box of rocks.
If you thought they were having fun with how stoopid Bush is over the past 8 years...
I do not like him Sam I am.
I have seen lots of threads on FR where that very same thing was stated.
I don’t know what exactly Mormons believe but lots of people think that is what they believe.
I am sure someone will come along and clear this all up.
Don’t get me wrong, Huckabee is a complete ass.
“But like I said on another thread, if Huck gets the nomination he loses the general”
You’ve got that right.
Need it be said? FDT for president.
No different than some referring to the Jewish race. I personally am of the Baptist race.
LOL, no doubt. I better go get some beer for this one.
