Republican presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee, an ordained Southern Baptist minister, asks in an upcoming article, "Don't Mormons believe that Jesus and the devil are brothers?"
The article, to be published in Sunday's New York Times Magazine, says Huckabee asked the question after saying he believes Mormonism is a religion but doesn't know much about it. His rival Mitt Romney, the former Massachusetts governor, is a member of the Mormon church, which is known officially as the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
The authoritative Encyclopedia of Mormonism, published in 1992, does not refer to Jesus and Satan as brothers. It speaks of Jesus as the son of God and of Satan as a fallen angel, which is a Biblical account.
A spokeswoman for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints said Huckabee's question is usually raised by those who wish to smear the Mormon faith rather than clarify doctrine.
"We believe, as other Christians believe and as Paul wrote, that God is the father of all," said the spokeswoman, Kim Farah. "That means that all beings were created by God and are his spirit children. Christ, on the other hand, was the only begotten in the flesh and we worship him as the son of God and the savior of mankind. Satan is the exact opposite of who Christ is and what he stands for."
Romney did not respond to a request for comment.
Earlier this month in Iowa, Huckabee wouldn't say whether he thought Mormonism rival Romney's religion was a cult.
"I'm just not going to go off into evaluating other people's doctrines and faiths. I think that is absolutely not a role for a president," the former Arkansas governor said.

As I said sometime back, the religion of the candidates isn’t going to impact my vote at all. I have accused the Mormons of being less than candid, and I’ll stick with that accusation.
If anyone but Rudy’s the nominee, I plan to vote for the Republican in the general election.

Me either I just want to show that if there a Christian on the earth my is one of them.
The Mormons do not believe in the inseparability of the Trinity, other than that it sounds pretty similar.
I’m not sure how much difference it makes. If you know Christ you will follow him regardless of how the Trinity works.
Yes, and. . .?
The Mormons called the right one, right? That is to say, they didn't follow the other one but merely recorded what they considered the reality, yes?
Look up the phrase ‘after all that you can do’ with regard to Momronism’s concept of Salvation. You will be on track to understand the fundamental difference in Christianity and Mormonism.
I think you missed the point: I don’t care what Mormons believe (they could believe that the Sugar Plum Fairy rules from her throne on Jupiter for all I care.) My point is that Huckabee is trying to play on the soft bigotry of his base to tar another man for political points, something that we’d, of course, expect from the MSM/Dems/bigots of all stripes but not something I, as a primary voter (in NH), am willing to tolerate from *anyone* let alone a man like Mike Huckabee that lives in a gigantic glass house, and plays a “Baptist minister” on TV (for someone that loves to go around playing the good Christian, he certainly sounds and acts an awful lot like the other man from Hope.)
The fact of the matter is, it’s not OK for Huckabee to do this, period. It’s not OK for *anyone* on our side to attack a man (overtly or in nasty asides) on something that has, quite literally, no bearing on whether he’s fit or not to be president of this country.
(note: I am in no way a Romney fan, but if Huckabee wants to sling mud or at least score some points, he would better served if it at least had a tangental connection to the issues at hand.)
Its also understandable why people are having a strong reaction to this. This makes Huckabee look like he is setting up Romney to be some sort of boogeyman Manchurian candidate that will turn over the United States to the Mormons.
Clinton is a Southern Baptist just like him. Why can’t he ask if it is Southern Baptist doctrine to cheat on your wife in the Oval Office and perjure yourself in court?
He could use more tact.
Well, on one level you are right: The apostle Paul told the religious but pagan Athenians: "As some of your own poets have said, 'We are his offspring.'" (Acts 17:28)
So Paul did try to use that as a bridge as you have. On the other hand when it came to religious folks who are trying to righteously work their way into godhood (like temple-visting Mormons...about 20% of all Mormons) or religious folks relying on their own righteousness (like "Christians in Name only"...Jesus was harshest in discounting this idea. He told the religious Pharisees:
"'You brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the coming wrath?...do not think you can say to yourselves 'We have Abraham as our father.' I tell you that out of these stone God can raise up children for Abraham." (Matthew 3:7-9).
Now, of course, this wouldn't apply only to Mormons: It can apply to those who say "We have Joseph Smith as our spiritual father" AND it can apply to those who say "We have Calvin or Wesley or Luther or whoever as our spiritual father."
Jesus elaborated on this in John 8, where he told the Pharisees that "You belong to your father, the devil...you want to carry out your father's desire...You are doing the things your own father does." (John 8:44-45, 41).
So, since Mitt's recent "Mormon" speech twice used the concept that we are all "children of God" and you reiterate it here, I'm assuming you have bought into his religious propaganda...propaganda about some pre-existent spirit world that Mitt believes...propaganda that openly militates against what the Biblical Jesus taught.
Can I get back with you on this..?
Sorry seek, but the Mormons do believe that.
They believe Jesus is the son of God, as do other Christians.
They believe the devil is the literal Son of God too. They believe that Jesus is his elder brother.
What I cant believe is how anyone could consider voting for Mike Huckabee after learning the facts about him! Now I believe he is not only a RINO, he is a bigot!
He told the truth. Is telling the truth a sign of bigotry?
Your freeper handle is "seek the truth". Perhaps you should actually seek out the truth about Mormonism before you falsely accuse Huckabee of being a religious bigot.
The Mormons believe it. The fact that you are are shoocked at that thought that someone would accuse the Mormons of believing such a thing is evidence that if they did believe it, then you would not consider them Christians. But they do believe it. I learned it is Priesthood classes when I was a Mormon. It is all a part of their "you too can be a God" theology.
Early Mormon teaching was that Jesus and Lucifer were brothers. Lucifers plan for redeeming the human race was rejected by Elohim, the head of the council of gods. Jesus plan was accepted. I dont know whether the LDS church still teaches this, however.
While I don’t think Romney being a Mormon is a issue, it is a church teaching. Regardless it does not serve Huckleberry hound well in bringing it up. Mormons can believe what ever they want to...geez
Ditto. We don't need Humpabug, another fraud from Arkansas who wants open borders.
Mohammad taught that Jesus didn't die on the cross. His followers revived him and he lived for many years and died a natural death. They believe he was a man like any other.
No, but it can exist as that form at the same time in a relatively short area and time!
The current Romney camp strategy of seeking to squelch exposure of the heresies in Mormonism by calling exposure ‘bigotry’ may work to get him nominated, but the mainstream heathen media like Larry McDonald will militantly expose it all to get their Democrat nominee elected. That is the reality of the media in America and the campaign to squelch exposure has limited potency. At some point Christian Conservatives in a significant enough number will ot out from voting for the Mormonism candidate because of his status as a bishop in a religion too alien from Christianity but which he and his brethren insist on calling restored Christianity. It will get posed as if voting for Romney requires accepting that your ancestors cannot enter into God’s presence without Mormon baptism. Absurd? You bet, but that is the thread by which Romney’s efficacy as leader will be made to hang.
As I said, I don’t care if he’s Mormon or Christian or Athiest as long as someone supports what I do while as POTUS: but I do care about their eternal soul which is in Jeopardy without Christ.
I think we are ~ both ~ basically saying the same idea. I also wouldn’t insult Christian Conservatives by calling us the “Holier than though wing of of the Repubican Party”,..though.
Larry McDonald = Larry O’Donnell
And why are they heirs? Not because they are natural children or spirit children of God; it is because they have been adopted.
Keep reading in Romans 8 - ROM 8:15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.
Or more clearly here:
EPH 1:5 Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will.
and here:
GAL 4:4 - 5 But when the fullness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.
Resty, Jesus IS God in a fleshly body. Satan cannot be a created being AND be the brother of God.
Anyone who feels morally superior to their fellow man based on their religious beliefs (or lack thereof) is a fool.
