COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) - The man who killed four people at a church and missionary training center died of a self-inflicted shotgun wound, police said Tuesday.
Matthew Murray, 24, was struck multiple times by a security officer at New Life Church Sunday but died after firing a single shot at himself, the El Paso County Coroner's Office concluded after an autopsy.

Amen...and she never has to be haunted.
Matthew Murray, 24, was struck multiple times by a security officer at New Life Church Sunday, but his death was ruled a suicide, the El Paso County Coroner's Office concluded after an autopsy.
Also Tuesday, Minneapolis police Sgt. Jesse Garcia said Assam was fired from the Minneapolis force in 1997 for lying during an internal investigation. Sgt. John Delmonico, president of the Police Officers Federation of Minneapolis, said police were investigating a complaint that Assam swore at a bus driver while she was handling an incident on a city bus.
NO...there were 2 others both male both paid security guards...wouldn’t fire at the perp. The guy that called the perp a sh*thead...asked both of them for their weapons since they weren’t using them. He told them he’d take him out...they wouldn’t give him their weapon.
It's like the old joke where the black man in Alabama is found at the bottom of a river, chained to concrete blocks, shot 12 times and a noose around his neck. The redneck sheriff said it was the worst suicide he'd ever seen.
President Bush should make a recess appointment of this lady to Head of Dept. of Homeland Security. Chertoff shoud be re-assigned to Ministry of funny walks.
I’m glad he died from his own bullet instead of her’s. It changes nothing though. She stopped him from hurting or killing anyone else. Since she shot him multiple times and didn’t kill him , maybe that was God’s plan all along. If witnesses didn’t see him point the gun at himself I want to see how they explain this though. Could it have bounced off of something?
Right. She does not have to have his death be laid at her door, but she does get credit for stopping him and saving countless lives. It is a mercy.
Suicide by multiple gunshots, huh?
The do-do is getting deep around here.
I don’t think the pathologist had any political motive. Pathologists at autopsies are attempting to find out the ultimate cause of death and any contributing factors. It appears the self-inflicted shot was what killed him, and the other injuries were not severe enough to have contributed to his death. The headline is accurate.
I bet this will take a load off Assam’s mind. She did what she had to in the circumstances, but ultimately she was not responsible for his death.
Doesn’t change a damned thing. If she wasn’t there, ready to act, dozens more would be dead. And then many of the media types would be denouncing the evil gun....
What a stupid song!
Still, I cannot forgive the MSM for deliberately trying to minimize the hero's role, and for digging up dirt on her reputation and printing it at this time.
Yep. God always has a higher plan :-).
Exactly, she wasn't shooting to kill him, she was shooting to stop him.
He just saved the taxpayers the expense of fixing him up, a trial, and incarceration, be that in a mental facility or a prison.
And who knows, he might have died of the wounds she inflicted anyway, provided medical attention was sufficiently delays... OTOH, there was bound to be doctors, nurses, EMTs or others trained in medical lifesaving. Being Christians they would have applied that training, even to him.
I really don’t care if it was self-inflicted. So long as she helped stop this guy before more innocents died, that’s good enough for me.
“I thought she was the only armed security officer at the church when all this went down?
Local reports are that two other armed security guards (rent-a-cops? Don’t know for sure) were just standing there. A parishoner was begging one of them to give him a gun.
“Vietnam Vet Larry Bourbannais details two male guards who did not fire, refused to give him their weapons:
Near an entryway in the church, Bourbonnais came upon the gunman and an armed male church security guard who was there with his gun drawn but not firing, he said.
Bourbonnais said he pleaded with the armed guard to give him his weapon.
“Give me your handgun. I’ve been in combat, and I’m going to take this guy out,” Bourbonnais recalled telling the guard. “He kept yelling, ‘Get behind me! Get behind me!’ He wouldn’t hand me his weapon, but he wouldn’t do anything.”
There was an additional armed security guard there, another man, who also didn’t fire, Bourbonnais said.
Bourbonnais yelled at the gunman to draw his attention, he said.
“First, I called him ‘Coward’ then I called him ‘S-—head’ “ Bourbonnais said. “I probably shouldn’t have been saying that in church.””
Will is just a part of this. Divine intervention/guidance was at work here. Pretty obvious to me.
