Minuteman Project Founder Endorses Mike Huckabee

Noting that he might not agree 100 percent on immigration with Huckabee, the firebrand illegal immigration opponent said Huckabee's recently released immigration plan won him over.

"The governor has a plan and I appreciate his plan. That's why I'm supporting him. He's one of the few who's actually brought forth a plan and gone public with it. It shows to me that he's willing to engage in the tough love necessary to fix this problem," Gilchrist said.

Gilchrist, whose organization is separate from the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps, has drawn protests in appearances at college campuses in recent months for his views on strict illegal immigration laws. Unlike the MCDC, whose primary role is to park volunteers along the U.S.-Mexico border to report jumpers to Border Patrol agents, the Minuteman Project calls attention to enforcement of state and federal laws relating to immigration.

Huckabee last week announced a get-tough immigration plan, proposing to construct a border fence with surveillance cameras by July 1, 2010, calling for an increase to the number of Border Patrol agents and imposing steep penalties on employers who hire illegal immigrants.

First Kirkorian and now Gilchrist. Huckabee appears to have the approval of our leading conservative experts on how to deal with the illegal immigration crisis.

Does Pat Robertson's endorsement of Rudy erase his immoral past, much less his record? No.

So why should we expect Gilchrist's endorsement to erase Huckabee's record on illegal immigration?

One of our more experienced photoshopper types should do a “Morph of the Mikes.” Dukakis into Huckabee.

But Mitt is still better than Huck. Why not him?

Benito was better than Adolph; Mao was better than Stalin; Ho Chi Mihn was better than Pol Pot; and Geraldine Ferraro is better than Hillary Clinton...the definition is in the degree of "better". IMO, neither Mitt or Huck are any good...check their military records for proof.

I think that the game that the RNC is playing is to get someone pro-illegal nominated. If both candidates are pro-illegal, it removes it as an issue in the election. That allows the RNC to pander to the illegal aliens who will be voting once they get amnesty rammed through without any inconvenient electoral threat from the party base, at least in the short term. I think this is a strategy to avoid a repeat of 2006.

In actuality, it will cause a repeat of 2006. What the MSM failed to report was that the Republicans lost 8% of the white vote in 2006. All we heard about was how much of the hispanic vote was lost. The Republicans lost a large portion of their base vote by hispandering and trying to out-liberal the democrats. And here we go again.

Actually this might be a brilliant strategy:
If illegal immigration ended, then he'd be out of a job; so by ensuring continuous illegal immigration he ensures future cash flow from trying to "stop" it.

I had the exact same thought. Gilchrist is hoping to maintain the status quo, not fix the problem. Bye-bye, credibility.

All that matters is can he beat a shrill, super-lib in the purple states after we dish on her bozo husbands constant humiliating affairs.

Now, that's definetly beyong a one-issue statement. You're saying that no issues matter at all and the ONLY important thing is to win. That's a policy just full of principles and values. I bet our founding fathers would disagree.

Gee, another sell-out. A disturbing trend. Politics makes people go insane, apparently.

He said he didn't agree with Huck on every part of his stance on illegal immigration, but that his new plan to combat illegal immigration had won him over.

I do like the part about them having 120 days to register and leave. That creates a definite timeline and makes them make a decision. After that, we can enforce our laws and get rid of the rest - for 10 years. The article also said his plan was very strict on employers. I haven't seen it, but punishing employers severely has to be one of the first steps, IMO.

But, I'm pretty disgusted that people are buying into these last-minute conversions.

The world is upside down. This is like the Wayne LaPierre endorsing Rudy.

To confirm your world observation, we recall that Pat Robertson DID endorse Rudy.

Yup, them cameras are really good about arresting people - hey, I bet after a 14 month investigation, watching drugs cross the border, they'll nail a couple of Border Patrol agents for doing their job..

Why Huckabee is Rudy’s stalking horse and he’ll do just enough to nuetralize Romney and suck the oxygen out of Thompson’s campaign.

Hmm, that's an interesting theory...and proving woefully accurate at the moment.

This is like endorsing a Palestinian "plan" for peace. Huckabee has a HISTORY which runs totally counter to his "plan". Only a fool would believe him. I am sorry to say that Gilcrist and Chuck Norris have both been fooled by the second coming of Bill Clinton.

Gilchrist doesn’t know Huck’s pro-illegal history?

It also leads one to question if he has a reading problem are is just short a few marbles. Must not have know that the Huckster just cut and pasted the thing and then went back to open border amnesty within twenty four hours.

I was comparing Mitt Romney with a social liberal, Rudy, and a tax-and-spender Mike Huckabee as Governor. Those biased sources could to 3X a number on Huckabee and 5X a number on Rudy. What’s laughable is to use the Mass Resistance stuff. Because Mitt Romney didnt break the law and end up impeached by refusing to implement the direct order of the supreme court of mass. he gets blamed for gay marriage. by that standard you should blame Rudy for 911!!

Mitt Romney didn’t do liberal things as Governor, not to the tax-and-spend extent Mike Huckabee did when Mike implemented the ArKids govt healthcare program, and then went back to increase taxes to pay for it.

Romney as governor got a tax cut out of a Democrat lege, staved off a budget crunch without tax increases (only fee hikes) and with budget cuts, fought for charter schools, abstinence education, and vetoed a contraceptive pill bill. Funny issues to push as a socalled liberal!

Romney has been consistently fiscal conservative, consistently against gay marriage, consistently against giveaways to illegal aliens, and consistently for law-n-order.

maybe that is why National Review, David Keene, head of American Conservative Union, and other conservatives are coming on board Romney’s bandwagon. He will govern more conservatively BY FAR than the other top tier candidates, Huck or Rudy.

Althought it's not all together impossible that Rudy's stalking horse couldn't get away from Rudy. I mean why settle for veep, unless you have to do so.

My point is that why do people use a double-standard and hold only Romney to that standard but not the other candidates whose record is less conservative (Huckabee case in point)?

Huck’s supporters are judging tax-and-spend populist Huckabee on his promises not his amnesty-and-instate-tuition-for-illegals record.
But fiscal-conservative Romney gets judged on the splotches in his previous campaigns and not his current promises?

Use the same standard for all. Consider their platform and their record ... FOR ALL CANDIDATES.
