Here in the KCMO area, schools are closed but I haven’t heard of any power outages. It came down mostly as rain thanks to George Bush and global warming.
To your west, Kansas State University is closed today during finals week. It is closed due to a mixture of icy roads and power outages. Thankfully, I gave my only final exam yesterday so I don't have to deal with make-up days.
Here in North Central Illinois, schools are also closed. It was slushy this a.m. when the wife left for work 24 miles away. But it’s supposed to get worse as the day goes on. She packed for overnight in case she has to stay at an old neighbor’s house near work. On top of 6” of snow, it could become real interesting real fast.
What’s also interesting is that most stores are out of salt, even rock salt for softeners. I picked some up on Saturday, fortunately, but even then the skid was almost empty. People have been using it to counter the repeated storms we’ve had even before this one.
Global warming? Yeah, sure!
I’ve been checking the KCP&L website every 15 minutes. It shows where and how many outages there are. You can click on your city and get a great map. http://www.kcpl.com/kcmaps/frameset_menus.htm
