DEMS HOLD FIRE ON HUCKABEE; SEE ‘EASY KILL’ IN GENERAL ELECTION
Tue Dec 11 2007 10:27:53 ET

**Exclusive**

Democrat party officials are avoiding any and all criticism of Republican presidential contender Mike Huckabee, insiders reveal.

The Democratic National Committee has told staffers to hold all fire, until he secures the party’s nomination.

The directive has come down from the highest levels within the party, according to a top source.

Within the DNC, Huckabee is known as the “glass jaw — and they’re just waiting to break it.”

In the last three weeks since Huckabee’s surge kicked in, the DNC hasn’t released a single press release criticizing his rising candidacy.

The last DNC press release critical of Huckabee appeared back on March 2nd.

[DNC Press Release Attack Summary:

Governor Mitt Romney (R-MA) – 37% (99 press releases)
Mayor Rudy Giuliani (R-NY) – 28% (74)
Senator John McCain (R-AZ) – 24% (64)
Senator Fred Thompson (R-TN) – 8% (20)
Governor Mike Huckabee – 2% (4)]

In fact, as the story broke over the weekend that Huckabee said he wanted to isolate AIDS patients back in 1992, the DNC ignored the opportunity to slam the candidate from the left.

“He’ll easily be their McGovern, an easy kill,” mocked one senior Democrat operative Tuesday morning from Washington.

“His letting out murders because they shout ‘Jesus’, his wanting to put 300,000 AIDS patients and Magic Johnson into isolation, ain’t even scratching the surface of what we’ve got on him.”

The discipline the Democrats have shown in not engaging Huckabee has earned the praise of one former Republican Party official:

“The Democrats are doing a much better job restraining themselves than the GOP did in 2003 when Howard Dean looked like he was on the brink of winning the nomination.”

A close friend to Huckabee explains: “Look, Mike is Hillary Clinton’s worst nightmare. They should be squirming.”

Or does the Dems lack of interest in Thompson reflect his irrelevance? More likely their fear of him. Kinda reminds me of the way they responded to Reagan actually. People with principles freak out 'Rats and RINOs.

That doesn't hold water to me - they ignore Huckabee because they know they can destroy him in the general election, but they ignore Thomspn because they think he's a legit threat? It doesn't seem like you can have it both ways.

We've been predicting this. But because Drudge says it, it's the gospel? LOL.

The Huckabee discipes want us to believe that the Huckster can beat out the Rats? Hell, he can't even get most his own party to support him..

Iowa is a blimp in the radar screen.

Adjust to not having a conservative in the White House for the next 4-8 years.

I guess that is ok with you of course...

Why is the DNC divulging letting know their plans to Drudge if they can crush Huckabee that easily? They should let the Republicans elect him and then they crush him.

The DNC isn't, but there are some guys in every operation who can't keep a secret. Drudge quotes only one guy from the Dem side.

I’m voting for Huckabee. The choices are Huckabee or a dithering, lying, pro abort which all the other possible nominees (Romney, McCain, Thompson, Giuliani) are.

We are at WAR, and need a candidate who is ready to be CIC, understands the enemy, here and abroad. Can be ruthless and an SOB.

I'm with you, Roses...I want a Commander-in-Chief not a Preacher-in-Chief.

Our bench is awfull thin. I can’t even figure out who we have to run for VP.

Bill Owens maybe, Mark Sanford.

Well, he is not my candidate as of yet, but he has been governor for 10 years. That surely compares favorably to any of the other candidates regardless of party.

It has been rare to elect someone directly from the Senate—JFK and Warren Harding being the exceptions. Remember, President Johnson was VP before being President. Also to be noted, that only JFK and Harding were were elected directly from the Senate. So Hillary and Fred T are swimming against the statistical tide. Ditto for Giuiliani.

There have been many Presidents who were previously Governors—Reagan FDR, Teddy Roosevelt and Cal Coolidge are excellent examples.

Of course there are exceptions—Herbert Hoover and Ike were never elected to public office before they ran for and were elected President.

So there is room, but Governor’s usually do better than members of Congress or those who are simply celebrities.

Oh please — do you think the DNC would plant this info with Drudge if they weren’t afraid of the Huckster? This is all calculated.

I completely disagree with the majority of your opinions on this board. I think Huckabee would CREAM Hillary.

As I stated before, the MSM has never, EVER been so in love with a bible thumping, ex-baptist preacher republican. It’s pretty evident why. It’s also why I’m suspicious of the poll numbers.

I think all the Republican candidates except for lunatic and defeatist Ron Paul will make good to excellent President and they are all vastly better than the socialists, abortionists, and defeatists on the democrat candidates running for President.

I asked before, if Fred Thompson is not the nominee of the Republican Party what would the freepers do? Thankfully most said that they will support the nominee no matter who he is.

“I think Huckabee would CREAM Hillary”

You’re completely delusional.It would be a landslide for Hillary. It’s a setup.

This is all that matters here:

Governor Mitt Romney (R-MA) – 37% (99 press releases)
Mayor Rudy Giuliani (R-NY) – 28% (74)
Senator John McCain (R-AZ) – 24% (64)
Senator Fred Thompson (R-TN) – 8% (20)
Governor Mike Huckabee – 2% (4)]

This ought to show you that Romney is the one the Democrats fear most.
