Bloomberg Seeks To Question Candidates About Guns

By GRACE RAUH Staff Reporter of the Sun December 10, 2007

Mayor Bloomberg is trying to force every presidential candidate to take a stand on guns.

A bipartisan coalition he co-founded with Mayor Thomas Menino of Boston, Mayors Against Illegal Guns, is asking all presidential candidates to complete a 16-question survey about restrictions on gun trace data, gun trafficking, federal enforcement of gun laws, and punishment levels for breaking gun laws.

The survey allows Mr. Bloomberg, seen as a potential presidential candidate who could jump into the race as a self-financed independent next year, to enhance his national profile and distinguish himself from other presidential candidates on gun policy.

The mayor has led a national fight against a gun law known as the Tiahrt Amendment, which restricts access to information about guns used in crimes, and has drawn the ire of the National Rifle Association as he has called for a crackdown on illegal guns.

"Every day, 30 Americans are murdered with guns — that's a Virginia Tech-sized tragedy occurring every single day in America. The majority of those murders are committed with illegal guns by criminals who under existing laws never should have had access to those weapons in the first place," the coalition, which includes more than 250 mayors, wrote in an The coalition asked that the completed survey be turned in by January 2, the day before the Iowa caucus. It said the results would be shared with the public and would help mayors decide which candidate to endorse for president. The organization noted that it would not be making an endorsement of its own.

Mr. Bloomberg said in a statement that the coalition is committed to respecting the rights

Exactly. I would have no problem answering any question he posed, unless the question presumed things that I believe to be untrue.

But, the Second Amendment is not about hunting. It is about the right of you and me to be secure in our homes.

Nope. Close, much better than most, but no ceegar. Well, I guess it COULD be correct, depending on who he means we have a right to be secure from.

Democrats must thing gun control is a good issue.

Good. Let's not do anything to tip them off otherwise.

And it's not just the left wing of the MSM that's hostile, supposedly conservative media corporations such as FoxNews

Yeah, but it's not conservatives that think Fox is conservative. The people that think so think anyone to the right of Josef Vissarionovich Dzhugashvili (Stalin) is David Duke.

Even if he disagreed with it, this court decision is going to trump everything, including even a possible Hillary presidency.

Not necessarily true. A decision in favor of the true meaning of the amendment would only apply to federal gun laws, and state and local governments would still be free to pass and enforce any gun law they chose. If the SCOTUS were to incorporate the 2nd Amendment into the 14th, as previous courts have with several other BOR amendments, it would then apply to all levels of government including federal, state, and local lawmakers and judges. But I don't expect that to happen, and not many of the people who know far more than I do about this current court do either.

Frankly, I am deeply worried that the swing voting Kennedy, who has recently expressed his admiration for European style international laws on other matters, will go along with the four left wingers on this case and the DC circuit decision will be overturned. If you're a Christian who believes that God answers the sincere, urgent prayers of his people, get on your knees tonight and pray that Kennedy will confirm the 2nd Amendment to be what I believe he and every other Justice on the court must surely know the authors intended it to be, i.e., a guarantee for an individual right of every American to keep and bear privately owned arms.

As far as northeastern elitists like BillionaireBloomie are concerned, ordinary gun owning church people who live anywhere south or west of Manhattan are just ignorant hicks in the sticks who still think the earth is flat, wear animal skins, and and eat raw whatever varmints we can kill with our beloved shootin irons and drag back to the cave. Bloomie couldn't care less what any of us peons think about anything unless what we think helps or hurts his ambition to go much higher in government than mayor of NYC.

The Sun article says that Bloomie is considering making a run for the White House next year. I hope he follows through with that idea, it would be great entertainment to watch him crash and burn like a WWII Kamikaze plane after the voters get to see him for who and what he really is.

I think Fred should come to the interview* with a .357 S&W under his coat.
Then he can open his coat and ask Bloomy;

“Well now Mayor, who exactly are you going to send to take this from me?”

*Assumes interview is outside of New York.

The survey asks candidates if, as president, they would support the Tiahrt Amendment on gun trace data; legislation requiring states to provide the federal background check system with records of people prohibited from buying guns, and legislation to require new guns sold in America to have microstamps, so shell casings at crime scenes could be traced.

Bet your money that Bloomboob runs as a third party candidate.

INDEPENDENT RUN WOULD DAMAGE THE DEMS WORSE

IMHO, that assumes the GOP doesn't nominate a RINO.

I KNOW one who will tell him to go pound sand. Duncan Hunter, and I think Ron Paul! I'm not so sure about the rest of them. Does anyone know someone else they have faith in to uphold the Constitution? What about Fred?

That survey would make an excellent target at the range.

So would Bloomy! LOL!

All the republicans ought to diss Bloomberg. this way, BLoomberg will run as a 3rd party. A Bloomberg candidacy will help the GOP.

It wouldn't surprise me if both Huckabee and Thompson returned the paper to him in that exact condition: Full of bullet holes.
