t's too bad. I was in the IZ (aka Greenzone) at that time but don't recall seeing her. Then again she was only there for 2 days! I don't know if it happened or not but since she had co-workers and other women were (in her locale) there she should be able to substantiate it. The whole part about not being assigned a female room seems bogus. I know KBR had a slim IT team but they were stationed at large areas, all of which had female trailer areas. The IZ has always had female-only trailers and areas and she talks as if it was some giant barracks. I don't recall there being any barracks in the IZ. The closest were converted Iraqi buildings.
I'm not saying she isn't accurate but she's got a lot to substantiate and with only 2 days in theater that's gonna be tough. Some ppl get there and flip out and run back home claiming X happened to them. Seen it before. I mean why is she socializing and drinking with these men if she feels uncomfortable there?
I don't think there are too many laws that existed there either at that time. PPL are really 'out there' in Iraq as contractors which is why character and morals are so important. All in all I"m not convinced. Who wants to risk a 150K/year job and civil liabilities over this? Occam's razor says people are generally well behaved in the criminal sense of the word in Iraq. Scumbags, sure, like 80% but criminal? Likely not. No one risks that pay and their career over that. I.e., all they work for over there would be lost in civil suits against them. Which is probably why she's going after KBR.
We'll see how it goes. But partying with all men on the 2nd night there when she feels uncomfortable about an all-male barracks, c'mon. And why send e-mails to corporate when there's a KBR housing office in the IZ which handles all housing assignments? They would have given her the room in the first place. Of course this doesn't preclude that whomever inprocessed her didn't 'set her up' from the start. Otherwise why wasn't she taken to KBR housing?
You three should to compare notes, and let FR know what the underlying issues are with this case. If it’s indeed a shakedown, you may find yourselves in the position of the Swiftboat guys. By default, you would seem to be the experts on how things happen over there. Thanks for the informative post Justa.
