No personal offense taken! LOL.
Actually, my ALL CAPS habit originated in the classroom at the blackboard.
My cursive is not uniform and beautiful though readable.
Particularly in the back of a classroom, it can be a challenge—especially an ESL classroom in China . . . with 70+ students . . .
They initially fuss at the ALL CAPS because it is virtually another alphabet for them though they have supposedly “learned” it.
But after a few weeks, they welcomed it because it was easier to read from the back of the classroom.
I don’t recall research on ease of reading. Should look it up.
What is easier about lower case to you??? Are you sure it’s EASE or merely a . . . biased conviction that it’s easier?
No offense meant, BTW.
To me . . . and I think logically . . .
saying that ALL CAPS 100% always = screaming
is
equal
to 90% of the students walking into a classroom and cursing the student in the 2nd row for screaming at them
MERELY BECAUSE he happened to be wearing a red shirt.
CAPS COULD MEAN
—a very slightly raised tone as in OH?
—a lowered tone as in a disappointed OH.
—a curious tone as in WOW—tell me more!
—a slowed speaking as in WELLL, I’ll . . . have to think a bit about that . . .
—a longer than usual pause after a word for emphasis . . .
—a THRILLED intent as in WOW—WONDERFUL.
etc.
It IS arbitrary to ascribe it always to SCREAMING in a negative way.
To say ALL CAPS are more DIFFICULT to read is an emperical question. And I don’t know the research on it. And for what percentage of the population would it truly be more difficult, if any? I don’t know. Good question.
To me, LOWER CASE IS more difficult—especially as far away from my eyes as the screen is.
I have to bump the size up a lot to compensate. And that often mangles the line lengths and causes all kinds of other problems on various websites.
But . . . it’s my problem and I try not to fuss.
Thanks for your kind input.
Maybe just copy cats.
My latest understanding (and I was AWOL for the past hour—grading papers), is:
the dead gunman is still lying where he dropped (killed by a sharpshooter woman security guard) because he could be rigged with bomb(s), there were 4 people dead at this church, there may be explosives in a vehicle; there may be another shooter from this incident; it may be related to the Arvada shooting, where the gunman is still at large (where two people were killed).
I’ve never ascribed to it.
Analogies can be fitting; more fitting; less fitting depending on a lot of factors.
Goodwin’s law presumes to force all cases into one size fits all. Doesn’t fit for me.
UGH... So many conflicting stories... I wonder if he began shooting outside and then entered??? That seems to be the most likely scenario seeing that reports are his body is still inside the church??? Very frustrating at this point trying to get the “facts”.
I get almost as much whining when I do those things.
Again . . . the assault is IMAGINED in the eye of the beholder.
Nothing is damaging the retina etc.
I agree. Too hard to read, and folks who use all caps are wacky. If God wanted us to use all caps, why do we have lower case letters?
Thank you, GoLightly. Dan Griebenow sounds like a very familiar name to me... Going to go check the pictures on that site now.
That was me in college as well. And it definitely caused me to have to work sometimes several times harder than my liberal classmates for the grade I deserved, but I was incapable of compromising my fundamental values in deference to their "authority." Can't tell you how many times a fellow student approached me following class and said, "wish I'd said that" or "I'm so glad you said what you did because it's what I was thinking."
Takes a little time to sanitize Acmed or Mohammed to make them more pallatable to general audiences?
= = =
INDEED.
Someone upthread was asserting that the Feds should get on the groups on the net and otherwise that are meeting glorifying such activities . . .
That would be interesting . . . the right arm of the FEDS would be going after such groups
while the left arm of the NWO FEDS would be actively creating and stirring up such groups.
What a crazy world ours has become.
Could be, because one of the deceased was in a van.
One report stated the shooter's body was still in the doorway of the church.
At least that’s better than
blinking chartreuse background and . . . some high contrast lettering . . . now that approaches hurting!
LOL.
Actually, I don’t HEAR you any differently. Still sweet silence.
Just read that the FBI and BATF have been called in and are assisting with the investigations.
Probably home grown.
I expected so.
They are all solid people—dedicated to God and therefore honesty as they know it.
Don't know really. Doesn't seem to flow as well. Perhaps familiarlity. I do know that I naturally tend to pass over posts in all caps if they're very lengthy at all, and even email. Seems cumbersome, for whatever reason.
That often happened while I was in my undergrad classes. I was more open-mouthed then.
This university...I speak, but they are even less tolerant of contrariness. From what I can see, they are even more likely to can you, too. I gotta watch myself, but they certainly know where I stand; I’ve said and written enough on that, lol!
(Even to the point one evening of, I believe, upsetting one prof (who I corrected in class and on paper when she said we live in a “democracy”). I let her and everyone else know, in no uncertain terms, we live in a REPUBLIC, and what that means. She was miffed at my overturning her applecart, I believe.....
That definitely does not sound like something the police would be saying unless they have a hunch that this wasn’t an attack against that particular church... Not good...
FOR ME, it is easier to read.
I’ve yet to be persuaded that emperically CAPS are harder to read. And it is an empirical question.
>>”there were 4 people dead at this church”<<
FOUR people killed in Colorado Springs church? That is heartbreaking. Prayers for all their families and loved ones left behind.
