Didn’t happen. I called you dumb because you’re dumb.

Once again, you've won again. How can I ever hope to intellectually compete with someone who makes such intelligent and though out arguments as "The author and the film are evil".

You must have cleaned up on the debating team.

"The author and the film are evil".

Given your emotional, obsessive reaction, I'd say the author is either your relative or you.

Nonetheless, the author and the film are evil.

The guy is hopeless. He hasn't once given thought to the serious nature of the charges we level at the movie. He admits he hasn't read the trilogy while some of us in this thread have. Heck, he doesn't even read fiction.

Then he brings up two tangents: Harry Potter, and Porn. Both of which clearly have little to do with why people should really be leery of their children seeing this movie. The merits of this argument are quite different from Harry Potter, and as we discussed porn is not relevant when discussing a movie targeted towards children.

He disagrees with informing people about the content of the movie, saying "why get worked up about it". Then he gets worked up about us discussing the movie's bombing in the marketplace. He's like Pullman's biggest fan screaming on Youtube, "LEAVE GOLDEN COMPASS ALONE!"

And then, to top it all off -- he's admitted that he's just killing time before a football game. LOL. I'm sure he'll get more worked up over that than we are over this movie.

Classic.

“First of all, I never said I believed that it makes one tactless and arrogant, but that it can perceived as such. Much like people went after Bob Dole when he started railing against action movies he’d never seen.”

You can’t make all of the people happy all of the time.

“Even though I had a laundry list of reasons that the movie was full of lies and propaganda, I found that many people refused to listen to me because I hadn’t seen it myself.”

Many people bought that propaganda hook line and sinker. If they weren’t willing to listen then I interpreted that as stupidity on their part.

“I finally broke down and borrowed it from a friend “

I’m sorry, that musta hurt. But I applaud you for not contributing.

Anybody that thinks a movie about fighting armored polar bears poses a serious threat to faith should re-examine their own.

No one is making the argument that "fighting armored polar bears poses a serious threat to faith". You committed the straw man fallacy. You have presented your opponents beliefs in an inaccurate light. Perhaps you would like to restate your argument without using a fallacy.

By the way, have you seen this film?

Nonetheless, the author and the film are evil.

Petronski, I share your belief that this latest mass media assault is indeed "evil." However, it is probably counter-productive to use that term with someone who does not share a Judeo-Christian viewpoint. From the tenor of his discourse I would hazard to guess that Gunrunner believes in the situational ethics philosophy of secular progressivism. For such, Christians represent the epitome of evil. Hence, "shake off the dust from the sandals" and move on to one not feeding on the corn husks.

No, I don't concede that this is a straw man argument.

Our local guy on the radio reviewed it and said that the visuals are incredible, and that the word God is only mentioned once or twice. I think a point can be made that kids will remember the talking animals and polar bear fights rather than pick up on any underlying anti-God message, which the filmmakers admittedly neutered in the film version.

By the way, have you seen this film?

No, I'll wait for it on Netflix.

Rooting for or against a movie to do well is stupid and pointless.

Thank you.

Now there's an intelligently written insult. Petronski, you could learn from this guy.

I just post the reality of your stupidity. If you find that offensive, look within yourself for the solution.

No, I don't concede that this is a straw man argument.

Well, you just did by restating your argument in a very different way. No one has argued that someone should not see the film because there are fighting polar bears.

No, I'll wait for it on Netflix.

You have argued that no one has grounds to argue against the film who hasn't seen it. That is like saying someone is not qualified to argue against rape unless they have participated in or witnessed a rape. The message of the film is quite clear. The author himself has stated explicitly what the message of his books is. And that message is what this argument centers on.

And yet, I'm not offended; whereas Zechariah was able to offend me in one post. Practice makes perfect, you're bound to get better.

Are you laughing at me for withholding judgment on a film I haven’t seen or are you laughing at yourself for claiming to know everything about a movie you haven’t seen either?
