He instituted the sacrament as a reminder of His great atoning sacrifice.THE?
We solemnly testify that His life, which is central to all human history, neither began in Bethlehem nor concluded on Calvary.
Oh well; there goes... "It is FINISHED!"
We declare in words of solemnity that His priesthood and His Church have been restored upon the earth
built upon the foundation of
apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone (Ephesians 2:20).
RESTORED??
What did ... leave out? (Anything PRECIOUS?)
KJv states:
Ephesians 2:20 And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone;
He will rule as King of Kings and reign as Lord of Lords, and every knee shall bend and every tongue shall speak in worship before Him.
in worship? Adding MORE stuff to and changing the KJV again?
-- King James Romans 14:11-12
For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God.
So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God.
Written where?
KJV Isaiah 45:22-25
22. Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else.
23. I have sworn by myself, the word is gone out of my mouth in righteousness, and shall not return, that unto me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall swear.
24. Surely, shall one say, In the Lord have I righteousness and strength: even to him shall men come; and all that are incensed against him shall be ashamed.
Why would anyone post words of their leaders, if what they say are NOT the equivalent of SCRIPTURE??
And then, even post stuff that is ALMOST what REAL Scripture says?
Each of us will stand to be judged of Him according to our works and the desires of our hearts.

Feel free to disagree, I wont be arguing here, just posting this. Life is too busy and short. We will, for we've been given these commands:
1 Timothy 1:3-4
3. As I urged you when I went into Macedonia, stay there in Ephesus so that you may command certain men not to teach false doctrines any longer
4. nor to devote themselves to myths and endless genealogies. These promote controversies rather than God's work--which is by faith.
1 Timothy 1:15-16
15. Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners--of whom I am the worst.
16. But for that very reason I was shown mercy so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display his unlimited patience as an example for those who would believe on him and receive eternal life.
1 Timothy 2:7
And for this purpose I was appointed a herald and an apostle--I am telling the truth, I am not lying--and a teacher of the true faith to the Gentiles.
1 Timothy 4:1-3
1. The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons.
2. Such teachings come through hypocritical liars, whose consciences have been seared as with a hot iron.
3. They forbid people to marry and order them to abstain from certain foods, which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and who know the truth.
1 Timothy 4:6
If you point these things out to the brothers, you will be a good minister of Christ Jesus, brought up in the truths of the faith and of the good teaching that you have followed.
1 Timothy 4:9-11
9. This is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance
10. (and for this we labor and strive), that we have put our hope in the living God, who is the Savior of all men, and especially of those who believe.
11. Command and teach these things.

...their Testimony has no inspirational weight. Of COURSE not!!
We've told you Gentiles over and over that the words our past leaders have spoken or written or have been alledged to has said are basically meaningless unless WE consider their words to be SCRIPTURE! (something our leaders can change as time goes along.)

What Mitt said about religion satisfied me.Just WHAT did he say about HIS religion?
All I heard was words about 'religion' in general in the USoA.
I like Mitt, too, but he is in fact very LIBERAL on a lot of his ideas.

If people think Mormonism is Christian then they dont know their Bible.Give folks a bit of a break.
They can KNOW their bible real well, but if the do NOT 'know' the facts about the founding of Mormonism, THEN they could be deceived by all the bible-LIKE talk that emanates from Salt Lake City and elsewhere.

Isn't Christ supposed to appear to Christians?Let's see what the Book has to say...
First off, we have 3 accounts of Christ basicly saying "Goodbye" to His disciples - Christians, if you will...
Matthew 26:29
I tell you, I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it anew with you in my Father's kingdom."
Mark 14:24-25
24. "This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many," he said to them.
25. "I tell you the truth, I will not drink again of the fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it anew in the kingdom of God."
Luke 22:17-19
17. After taking the cup, he gave thanks and said, "Take this and divide it among you.
18. For I tell you I will not drink again of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes."
19. And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, "This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me."
And St. John records Jesus' words here :
John 16:7
But I tell you the truth: It is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Counselor will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you.
St. Paul writes to the church that meets in Thessalonica of Jesus' return:
1 Thessalonians 4:13-18
13. Brothers, we do not want you to be ignorant about those who fall asleep, or to grieve like the rest of men, who have no hope.
14. We believe that Jesus died and rose again and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him.
15. According to the Lord's own word, we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left till the coming of the Lord, will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep.
16. For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first.
17. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever.
18. Therefore encourage each other with these words.
We see nothing in Scripture that indicates Christ Himself will appear bodily to man on earth at any time UNTIL what is known as the SECOND coming.
Anyone who claims otherwise has the burden of PROOF on their shoulders.
Revelation 1:7
Look, he is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him, even those who pierced him; and all the peoples of the earth will mourn because of him. So shall it be! Amen.

But if you say you accept Christ while you reject his true prophet at the same time you are fooling yourself. That Joe Smith is a "true prophet" is an LDS belief.
It is not MY belief.
I figure brer Smith to have been a charlatan and an opportunist.

“Just WHAT did he say about HIS religion?”
That he’s not going to put it before his patriotism. That coming true, I’m totally uninterested in his religion.
I know it doesn’t advocate chopping peoples’ heads or hands off, or flying airplanes full of people into buildings of people.

No. He is a fundamentalist Mormon
If I may but in here, I know some FLDS, they do not like being called Mormon (they consider us apostates, sound familiar?) IF they say they are not, and we say they are not, why except from ignorance, or as a smear mechanism would anyone else say they are?
Just food for thought, I'm sure you did not know.
Merry Christmas

...the Only Begotten Son in the flesh...
Ive never gotten into an LDS thread before, but I have a question. This statement is true, but misleading, from what I have read. Does not LDS Doctrines and Covenants describe Elohims other spirit children, including Lucifer (called Perdition), making him a brother of Jesus?
That, if true, seems to mark a huge difference between orthodox Christianity and LDS beliefs. How do LDS members interpret/explain this?
Mormons are Christian, but not Orthodox ones by any stretch of the imagination.
I have addressed many questions you will see here so many times, that I edited my page on FR to be a response to many of them. you can get to my page by
Clicking here, or just to my answer to your question by

Anyway, joining a Mormon religion thread can be wild roller coaster ride, I hope you enjoy strong emotional debates!
Oh, and welcome.

hoppity, Please be aware that anyone who quotes from the Tanners is quoting from someone who has sworn to destroy our church. Please pray about all you will be asked to read here, and follow the spirit.
I would also suggest you ask people to identify their position, Mormon or not Mormon, I am a Mormon.

I really wish I had said that before you did. :) Mormonism is, indeed, off the wall, and I do not really comprehend how Mr. Romney could believe the “extraneous” stuff. However, if it comes down to him and any other Democrat (aka Commie/Liberal/Socialist), no question Romney will get my vote. Because every election is choosing the lesser of two evils, whether we like it or not.

I would also suggest you ask people to identify their position, Mormon or not Mormon, I am a Mormon. DU, as you know I am former mormon...I DO think your suggestion is not really appropriate. Some people would consider it a breach of the anonymonity of this site. And hoppity might get some replies he/she may not like to that question.
I, personally, make it a point to not try and label the FReepers I debate with, even though most of the time I can tell if they are mormon.
As our mod friend keeps saying, "Don't make it personal."

Fixed it for ya!
If you want to learn about the Mormon faith try reading their books and not the Anti's. You will find that what they teach about who Jesus is, is very different from what the pagan Nicean Creed teaches, but is right on with what the Bible Teaches.

Firstly, it’s fun for Mormonism haters to say that we believe Jesus and Satan are bothers, and then leave it at that, as if that meant anything nefarious. But in all actuality, since Lucifer was a “son of the Morning” and fell from heaven, he is also my brother and yours, we are all God’s children. The bible clearly states that Satan, the Dragon took 2/3’s of the hosts of heaven with him when he fell, and then became the devil, seeking to destroy the souls of men. The fact that you and I are here in this earth means we chose to follow God and not Satan. Please keep that in mind when pretending to tell others what we actually believe about the immortality of the soul.
Secondly, LDS doctrine is firm in it’s affirmation that Mary was a virgin, but was overshadowed with eh Holy Ghost. Jesus is the literal son of God, how the Father chose to do that is beyond our reckoning. Having 4 children all conceived by artificial means, makes them no less my children than a normal conception. I don’t get lost in the mysteries of the Kingdom that are just not important. What is important is that Jesus Christ is literally the son of God. That is a truism and nothing less will do.
