That would be if it was a "liberal leave" policy, this is an administrative holiday instead.

We have to fill the days in between Christmas and the New Year and it is written into our contract of employment that the company has the right to nominate 4 days of our annual leave which is used for this purpose depending on how Christmas falls each year.

This year we had to allocate 4 days and what our company does is announce this just before Christmas of the previous year and when we return in the January take the hours off our annual entitlement and so we immediately know how much we have got left so we cannot “forget” to allocate the days.
