Executive Order: Closing of Executive Departments and Agencies of the Federal Government on Monday, December 24, 2007
By the authority vested in me as President by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, it is hereby ordered as follows:
Section 1. All executive branch departments and agencies of the Federal Government shall be closed and their employees excused from duty on Monday, December 24, 2007, the day before Christmas Day, except as provided in section 2 below.
Sec. 2. The heads of executive branch departments and agencies may determine that certain offices and installations of their organizations, or parts thereof, must remain open and that certain employees must report for duty on December 24, 2007, for reasons of national security or defense or other public need.
Sec. 3. Monday, December 24, 2007, shall be considered as falling within the scope of Executive Order 11582 of February 11, 1971, and of 5 U.S.C. 5546 and 6103(b) and other similar statutes insofar as they relate to the pay and leave of employees of the United States.
GEORGE W. BUSH
THE WHITE HOUSE,
December 6, 2007.
Please elaborate. I would like to hear more.
I am a federal employee and I am indeed rejoicing! I work part time, Mondays and Fridays only, and it was going to be very tough to work on Christmas Eve—I have 4 children, we have church to go to, and a slew of people over for standing rib roast that evening, and a have an 1.5 hour commute one way, and my boss was not going to give me permission to take the day off—
So, yippee! My boss’s boss’s boss’s boss=George Bush and I get the day off!
Merry Christmas!
LOL!
That was good. ;o)
I’m glad he doesn’t pretend it’s a non-denominational holiday, but calls it by its real name: “the day before Christmas Day.”
Right on Irish Rose, let’s be honest, Christmas Eve is a heckuva lot more meaningful than the Wednesday before Turkey Day! I am with you—take the day off!
Wow, that does sound busy. Up untill very recently my dad has farmed and also worked part time as an electrical engineer so it has been really hard for him to take time off as well. But at least things did slow down at Christmass. Maybe you should consider cutting back on something so you aren’t constantly under all that pressure?
Glad to see the federal employees get Christmas eve off. This is one executive order I approve of.
Federal employees get two weeks of vacation a year, to go to the beach and do no work.
The other 50 weeks they sit in their offices and do no work.
Actually there are some government employees who work incredibly hard. When I was in college I interned at a country court house in VA. The jury manager there who was my boss practically worked around the clock. She was there well before 8 in the morning and ofter worked untill late in the evening. So, lets not get caried away with the stereotypes.
Dose this mean the banks will close? Banks follow Federal Holidays.
Give them off all 365... less michief to be done. :)
Um...not exactly breaking news. Kinda the opposite, actually.
Speak for yourself. most of us have it off. I own my own business and I'm taking it off, in part because nobody else is going to be in.
Boarders?
Guess what: I work for the postal service and my bold
prediction is I will be reporting for work on Dec 24.
(night shift, too; hopefully there won’t be much mail
and I can get out by midnight) :)
It feels good to be an "essential worker". I think.
Does this guarantee an extra day for the President to make appointments while the Senate is out?
Will there be more conservative judges on Dec. 26?
