The horrible tragedy at the Westroads Mall in Omaha, Neb. received a lot of attention Wednesday and Thursday. It should have. Eight people were killed, and five were wounded.

A Google news search using the phrase "Omaha Mall Shooting" finds an incredible 2,794 news stories worldwide for the last day. From India and Taiwan to Britain and Austria, there are probably few people in the world who haven’t heard about this tragedy.

But despite the massive news coverage, none of the media coverage, at least by 10 a.m. Thursday, mentioned this central fact: Yet another attack occurred in a gun-free zone.

I believe in Texas, if you need and use your weapon in a place you’re not suppose to have it, there will be no prosecution

Yep. I put the blame on idiot liberals who keep us forcibly disarmed and then wonder why massacres happen in places where people are not allowed to defend themselves.

I have an old Yugo SKS laying around the house somewhere.

Billy Clinton killed the SKS market with ammo import restrictions, so I haven’t fired it much in the past ten years.

I never bothered on converting from the fixed mag, as the SKS is great as it is.

In most instances, it may not be a crime to violate a private property owner’s request. However, you may be asked to leave. If you don’t, you’d be guilty of trespass.

Unfortunately, from all accounts, it sounds like nobody had a chance to defend themselves. Even if somebody was carrying a weapon, there still would have been dead people since he came out of the elevator firing his gun. But, we’ll hear from all of the gun control morons how more laws would have stopped this senseless shooting. It’s just a damn shame...

***SKS.***

Fox news said it was an AK-47, then said it was an SKS.

CNN said it was an SKS.

SKS. a carbine of limited, fixed magazine capacity (10 rounds). You have to reload through the open action, rather than replace the magazine like the AK. Fun gun for $150-$200.

the 30 rd 'fixed' mag swaps out faster for me than using stripper clips through the action, and I think 75 & 100 rd drums are available. Nice balance and decent shooter for the $$$ ...

replace the fixed mag with detachable SKS mags (have a long tongue on them) or AK mags.

good info, I guess mine was converted, I havnt had any problems with it in 13 yrs, thought the fixed mag was a little to easy to change...lolol...

Loss of CC permit for one. Fine probable, as well as loss of weapon. However, you’d still have your life.

A few of the AK mag conversions work, but not all of them.

There were also some SKS variants manufactured to accept detachable AK mags. I had one with a barely leagal 16 & 1/2 in barrel. Bought it new in 1990 or 91 for around $230. It was absolutely the funnest guns I've owwned until it was stolen. Of course it was never recovered. Sure would like to have another one.

I remember the good old days when you could buy a case of five SKS for $99 per gun. The wood Chinese crate was hella cool.

It is high time we end victim disarmament zones. It is now well proven that they only serve to disarm the victims, not the criminals.

We got them for $72 per gun by the case. We have them strategically placed all over the ranch.

Good morning.
“What would happen to me if I went somewhere that the local mall or whatever posted that concealed weapons were not permitted even with a permit but I did so and ended up stopping a rampage?”

You, and others, would be alive to deal with the fallout, rather than being dead victims being used by the MSM to push gun control.

Hopefully NRA,GOA, JFPO, etc. would provide you with some topnotch legal support. If not, you would, at least, be alive.

Wasn't it in WA state last year where an off duty, out-of-jurisdiction cop (basically the same as any civilian with a CCW) stopped a mall shooter cold?

As I recall, the perp had a pump shotgun and a big sack full of shells, ready for prolonged murder and mayhem, but the off duty cop nailed him.
