As undersecretary of state for arms control in 2003, I know we were nowhere near exerting any significant diplomatic pressure on Iran.

What other pressure was there ? Perhaps the authors of the NIE report are suggesting that the Mahdi himself told the President of Iran to stop his pursuit of nuclear weapons. Come to think of it, why would the Iranians need nuclear weapons when a representative of god is going to come to assist them ? Surely their god is more powerful then nuclear weapons. Sarc off.

FWIW, I don’t think the NIE, bogus or not, will prevent the overthrow of the mullahcracy.

Bolton is pretty harsh on the Bush adminstration for such a wimpy response to Iran.
