Good answer.
I worked road construction as an asst. to the IDOT engineer. It was hotter than hell, I (being a redhead) was sunburnt all summer long (probably set me up for skin cancer in a few years), and since I had to grab asphalt samples every day, the smell really got to me. To this day, if there's any road construction going on anywhere around me that involves asphalt, my nose picks it up immediately.
I've pulled weeds from a soybean field. Truly back-breaking, and I was a young teenager at the time.
I've worked the night shift in a fast food joint.
And I still feel like Fred Thompson. Greatful for the jobs when I had them.
Another great Fred Thompson interview!
