A PLA Navy Type 022 missile FAC in patrol

Not a bad looking boat. Seems like a fairly stealthy design.

Who has the viking kitty image address? The suggested caption is “I want one!”

In 2004, Chinas Quixin Shipyard in Shanghai produced the lead Houbei Type 022 wave-piercing catamaran, hull number 2008.Catamaran hulls? I guess that makes them "Hobei-cats"?

I wonder will Iran try to buy this class of warship. That could be quite frightening, since it would allow for fast operations in the Persian Gulf and it appears that boat has a low radar cross section, which makes them even more deadly.
To: sukhoi-30mki
Several possible answers may exist to explain the lack of an SSM radar on 022 among other anomalies of weapons and missions. The older C-801 and C-201 Osa/Komar copies used the Square Tie radar for SSM fire control targeting. One explanation would be that the marine support mission needs only simple targeting on fixed land sites with Peoples Liberation Army (PLA) type ballistic missiles. Since there is no need to detect and track mobile targets and guide the missile to intercept, the complex Band Stand or even basic Square Tie capabilities are not needed.
It could also be that the Chinese expect to have their satellites taken out early in any battle, and want to have a weapons system that is not slaved to any GP system.

That’s a lot of lead paint !!

If Iran buys them we’ll get more practice tracking and targeting them. Looks like an interesting challenge.

Any technical problems will be corrected by Hillary selling the ChiCom Navy (under the table) any damn thing they want. The megabuck bribe money will flow freely, like in the 1990's.
How else do you suppose the Clintons come to be worth $100 million, having never held an honest job between them?

Sure it does. Clinton gave the Chinese all the technology they wanted. He gave us away for his 30 pieces of silver.

I thought the article said it was based on an Australian design?

Here's a pic of the Australian design:

The US has this one on lease called the HSV Swift. It was in Baltimore Harbor this last weekend for the Army/Navy game. I got to tour it and it is an amazing ship!

I know, it used to be tied up outside where I work. We had a guy here that was stationed on it.

There’s a similar Australian-owned HSV based in Okinawa, used to transport US Marines around the Pacific. It’s fast, but the ride is bumpy. There are always loads of Marines puking all over the place during the 48+hour trips on the HSV.

They probably got the design from their intense intelligence operations, or they just looked at the “special features” section of “Tomorrow Never Dies” James Bond DVD..
