More pablum from those that wish humanity to live in ant hills - sacrifice your existence to stay with the mistake you married. I have only one word for Jianguo Liu of Michigan University: fungu.

Indeed.
Junk journalism used to be a bachelor; now it’s also married to junk science.

I think I helped fight it during my first divorce. She wouldn't STFU, so when I moved out, it's must've cut the local CO2 emissions by 5% or better. :-)

” So divorce causes Global Warming? “
Inverse causality. Global Warming causes Divorce: decreased snuggling needs lead to increased desire for “my own space”, as well as increased body odor; also less depedence on someone to do the snow shoveling, hearty meal cooking, or whatever domestic chores each of us hates that their spouse does; not to mention the increased exposed skin area of attractive-looking members of the opposite, or desired, or whatever, sex, leading to the (usually erroeous) notion that the individual in question could do better. See the popular song,”Baby It’s Cold Outside”.

Scientists have quantified for the first time the extent to which divorce damages the environment. All this environmental projection tells me that there is a deep mental illness sweeping the planet.

I wonder if the author takes into account breakups by cohabited couples. The divorce rates in the US in general is higher than other Western countries (especially compared to those of Western Europes), but American marriage rates are also higher. So, if we simply look at the effect of breakup on environment (via the demand of housing, electricity, etc.), we also need to look at the breakup rates of cohabited couples.

One thing wrong here. When people get divorced; they usually move to smaller places and have to work; so they are not there most the time; hence, less electricity used. The kids are in school; etc.
Have you seen single peoples or even newly married couples places these days? They hardly contain any furniture because they are NOT there.

"Scientists have quantified for the first time the extent to which divorce damages the environment." I seriously doubt any real self respecting "scientists" had anything to do with this crap. The word "scientist" no longer means a professional person educated and studying in their chosen field of interest, it means any left wing moonbat envirowienie who thinks mankind doesn't belong on this planet, and should all be governed by a world government full of unelected evirowienies, and live like cavemen, except grazing little sheep, not clubbing dinosaurs over the head and roasting them over an active volcano.

"All this environmental projection tells me that there is a deep mental illness sweeping the planet." And they are brainwashing every kid in public school from K-12 in the entire western world with this garbage, and there isn't a damn thing we can do about it.
