Immigration stance may be what turns many red states blue says LINDA CHAVEZ
The Dallas Morning News ^ | October 8, 2007 | Linda Chavez

Republicans need all the votes they can get next November if they are to have any hope of retaining the White House and winning back control of Congress. But one group of voters – among whom the GOP has gained considerable ground over the last few elections – now seems about to slip away, perhaps permanently.

Hispanic voters are poised to turn several red states blue come 2008, virtually guaranteeing a Democratic presidential victory and a pickup in congressional seats as well, according to a new analysis of Hispanic voting behavior. "Border Wars: The Impact of Immigration on the Latino Vote," released by the conservative Americas Majority Foundation, demonstrates that congressional Republicans' ham-handed approach to immigration will cost them dearly at the polls.

“Chavez”

For 200 years, American grew to be the most powerful country in history without listening to anyone named Chavez.

We need not start now.

She it way out of touch. The most out of touch people with the American people on the planet are those who hold elected office and serve in Washington. Even those clowns were in enough touch to understand that Jorge Bush-Teddy Kennedy Comprehensive Immigration had a very high political price.

I’ve had it with Chavez. She’s a RINO, and I skip over her articles now.

I used to get requests for political contributions from Linda, as much as I admire her, I was finally forced to add a note to her literature and return it to her. She is wrong, wrong, wrong, and seems just as hellbent on destruction (on the immigrant issue) as our President. What is the problem? They just can’t grasp the FACTS. American CITIZENS do not want amnesty, but they continue in their state of denial.

Perhaps she’s polled all the ILLEGALS in those “red” states. She forgets, THEY DON’T COUNT-—and they’d better not be voting! (Does anyone know how, or when, Linda’s parents got here?)

I wrote Chavez off as anyone to take seriously last summer when she came out with her ridiculous accusations and slurs against those who want immigration laws enforced. And she just can’t let go of her sanctimonious preaching and posturing. Not anyone whose opinions I’m interested in.

Not to mention the 25MIL plus she has bummed off of people for political purposes, and spent the most of it on herself and family.

She lost me months ago when she accused anti-immigration people of being racists.

She needs to take her whining elsewhere.

Most Republicans are not going to compromise on this issue....even if she's related to most of those crossing from Mexico! LOL

Ham-handed??

In the 90’s Bill Bennett and Jack Kemp swooped into CA after the Prop 186 was passed, and proceeded to make a speech calling Californians RACISTS.

Now THAT was ham-handed!

They are all in it for the money.

Chavez is no different.

It is bordering on outright treason if you ask me.

They want to destroy the country, from the privileged and safe sanctuary of their gated communities, where they lord it over the unwashed masses in flyover country who have to put up with their reprehensible border policies where the real word rubber meets the road on a daily basis at the grassroots of America. They are SO out of touch!!

And you want us to give amnesty to 20 million and let all their relatives in too? Geez, that will kill the republican party forever.

Karl Rove’s theory that there is an emerging Hispanic majority was the basis for what got W. into trouble about immigration to begin with. They are delusional if they think that Latinos are going to become Republicans. Maybe the more successful business owners who speak English and can assimilate will but the average undereducated Spanish-speaking blue collar worker isn’t going to go there.

She's only being pragmatic about political reality.

In the end, she will be spot on....

The party changed direction after much groundwork was layed by Reagan, GHWB and GWB. They new what it would take to beat the Dem's and both opened up the big tent Republican party. They all three took heat from the base and Conservative writers for it.

They were right. Conservatives were wrong but they don't yet know it and may never accept it.

I''m afraid the return to 30 years in the minority wilderness is certain because of what has been done by conservatives acting out in a populist manner with no thought to the consequences. They even called what they were doing....principled. But don't they all. History is replete with principled political stupidity.

“Karl Rove’s theory that there is an emerging Hispanic majority was the basis for what got W. into trouble about immigration to begin with.”

Yes, and many Americans know that means “if demographic trends continue.” If we’d enforce our immigration laws and talk no more of amnesties, that emerging majority would never emerge, much to the disappointment of Linda Chavez, I’d guess.
