I don’t have specific knowledge of this, but several things I have seen indicate that we can identify the source of the nuclear material by way of isotope analysis of the residue of a nuclear explosion. Should we ever suffer such an attack, that source ought to glow in the dark for the next millenium - and we ought to be advertising that intention, far and wide.

Share your understanding on the traceability of the nuclear signature but how does that help anyone if it leads to only the first culprit?

And if it is from Russia?

In order to know the source I believe we have to have samples.

Do we have samples of NK material?

And let’s say we determine it was NK, it will likely have been someone else that actually did the deed and they likely have more.
