Rescuers are sifting through the rubble of the main United Nations headquarters in the Algerian capital looking for 14 U.N. staffers missing hours after a powerful bomb ripped off the building’s facade and leveled nearby U.N. offices Tuesday.

First off - the day of the month was the 11th, sound familiar? Second, the folks at the counterterrorism blog remind us that on November 3, Al Qaeda's number 2 Dr. Ayman al-Zawahiri called for attacks on Western interests throughout North Africa, and called for the overthrow of leaders of Libya, Tunisia, Algeria and Morocco. The potential targeting of Algeria linked to France's swing to the right and calling terror - terror. Perhaps we've been too focused on the US to recognize that AQ is seeking to strike what they believe is a more defeatable opponent at this time to regain momentum.

Yep, and they’ll strike whenever they have an opportunity to do so and the means to do so.

Thanks Godzilla.

Jihad — another day.
