The reason I mentioned it, is that I took jump school in 72 and I was shocked to see that parts of Benning were over grown with grass and weeds, and the EM club was largely taken over by black militants and it was off limits to us.

The Infantry School part looked normal, clean and immaculate etc.

Benning was a dark, business like place to be back then.

Again, the standard of living seems to be good to go. I can't speak for restricted areas of the base (obviously) or the non-com watering holes, but from what I can see as a vet, Legionnaire, and permanent of the 1st Civ Div., Fort Living Room, things aren't the roiling pot o' water they were when you bunked there.

South Columbus hasn't changed, though. I wouldn't want to be there after dark outside of an APC if I were the Devil Incarnate.
