It looks like Monkey-gate may be over. Earlier this week, Erin Burnett raised some eyebrows as she flippantly referred to President Bush as a "monkey" during Monday's broadcast of Morning Joe. The video on YouTube has over 60,000 views.
Today, on Hardball, she apologized to President Bush. "Earlier this week I was on MSNBC, on Morning Joe, and I made a bad attempt at humor...I said something stupid, I just want to make sure I apologize if I offended anyone. I do have the upmost respect for the President, I hope he has a great weekend, and Chris, I hope you do too," Burnett said.

"IF I've offended, then I'm sorry" just doesn't cut it.Yep, you nailed it. Burnett's "apology" was insincere, and just as flippant as her original "attempt at humor".
Somebody get me a barf barrel.

It looks like Monkey-gate may be over.No. I don't think so....
To: LdSentinal
BS. She should still be fired. And the whole MSNBC “network” should apologize, both to President Bush and to the nation.

What is really strange about me is that I read that sentence several times looking for the mistake and every time I read “utmost”. I guess my mind corrected it for me. Never even saw the “upmost”. LOL Aloha from Maui

She must look at all the editorial cartoons in the Red Star where they make the president look like a monkey.
To: LdSentinal
No. She apologized if she offended anyone. Please note that she didn’t apologize for saying what she said. This is not an apology.

Freepers frequently post that the MSM has a left wing bias.
Her comment supports that position. Her being open about it helps prove our point. - The MSM is losing the "we are unbiased" argument and they know it, so they are no longer exerting a lot of effort to try to hide it; which means we'll see more and more of this (a good thing).

This is disappointing and unprofessional of Erin Burnett.
Rush Limbaugh on his broadcast of July 17, 2007 cited Erin for "getting it" on the economy, and being independent of the Drive-By Media's narrative on the economy, by stating on the 7/17/07 Today show on NBC:
BURNETT: "You know, it is an amazing thing here. We're looking at the Dow Jones Industrial Average, up 34% over the past six months, 30 days this year alone we have had record closes for that index. So it's really another day another record on Wall Street. It's also worth noting that while politicians talk two Americas, virtually all Americans are seeing wages rise, and unemployment is at an historic low. The issue of taxes is important here. The top 1% of Americans pay 30% of taxes in this country. The bottom 20% of American wage earners pay only 5%."

Is it just me, or does anyone else cringe at these kind of "apologies"? This is not apology at all, in my opinion. "IF I've offended, then I'm sorry" just doesn't cut it. If she had a way with words, we wouldn't be talking about her in the first place, would we? She obviously is challenged in certain areas of verbal communication. Probably relies on a teleprompter, and could probably use some tips from Hillary Clinton on how to react well on the spur of the moment.
