You would have heard that name mentioned in the movie “Evel Knievel” (1971) starring George Hamilton in the title role.

I bought one for my son, but I don’t think he ever got the chance to play with it. Dad wouldn’t give it up. LOL

That’s sad.

He was a good guy. He did crazy things but he was very down to earth. He was an old fashioned guy that couldn’t resist a dare that required some stones.

Hope he’s in heaven ... .

R.I.P.

In the jail scene IIRC.

Who’da thought Evel would leave us in so mundane a manner?

RIP, Mr. Knievel. This child of the ‘70s will miss ya.

“All of a sudden, I just believed in Jesus Christ. I did, I believed in him! … I rose up in bed and, I was by myself, and I said, ‘Devil, Devil, you bastard you, get away from me. I cast you out of my life.’ … I just got on my knees and prayed that God would put his arms around me and never, ever, ever let me go.”

Glad to hear that.

Perhaps a reason he fought Christ off before this was because sin was winning ... as he learned ... perhaps sin wasn’t making him happy and he was looking for true peace ... it will be found in Christ.

I wish I didn’t sell mine in a yard sale many years ago. :(
RIP Evel, you were a hero to me growing up. I have the scars to prove it!

I remember all of us a family watching him jump that snake river canyon deal years ago.

Same here. I started the day after I saw the movie with George Hamilton. The next day we were setting up ramps. :)

Great Evel quote from an interview with Huddlin' motorcycle shop:

Huddlin’: Did you ever have fear making those jumps?

Knievel: Of course, but you do it. When you see a kid with a T-shirt that says, "No Fear" you're looking at a dingbat. You wouldn't need a brain if you didn't fear things.

Courage is overcoming your natural fear, not denying the existence of the fear. The guy was a character and one of the great embodiments of American spirit

I still have the bike, sans the decals, in a box of old stuff at my folks’ place.

I grew up watching EK regularly on Wide World of Sports etc. I always enjoyed watching him jump stuff.

I did not mean to imply that I knew him personally, although I wished I had. There was always something about him that that was down-to-earth.

It must have been a real pleasure drinking with EK.

It is unusual for someone with the "risk gene" to live a full life.

He used to make me so nervous watching his jumps, they usually didn't turn out too well.
