House Appropriations Defense Subcommittee Chairman John Murtha (D-Pa.) has taken the unusual step of publicly clarifying his remark that the surge is working in Iraq.
Murtha, a former Marine and top adviser to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) on military matters, had often said previously that the surge is not working.
The clarification came after House Republicans circulated an article about Murthas comments written in Fridays edition of his home-state Pittsburgh Post-Gazette after a teleconference from Murthas Johnstown, Pa., office. In addition to saying that the surge is working, the Post-Gazette reported, Murtha called the Iraqi government dysfunctional and said, The thing that has to happen is the Iraqis have to do this themselves. We can't win it for them.
That put him in line with the current position of the House Democratic leadership that the extra troops have done a good job of reducing violence, but the Iraqi government has been squandering the opportunity.
This morning Murtha issued the following statement through his spokesman:
The military surge has created a window of opportunity for the Iraqi government. Unfortunately, the sacrifice of our troops has not been met by the Iraqi government and they have failed to capitalize on the political and diplomatic steps that the surge was designed to provide.
The fact remains that the war in Iraq cannot be won militarily, and that we must begin an orderly redeployment of U.S. forces from Iraq as soon as practicable.
The House of Representatives has passed a $50 billion funding bill that provides the president, our troops and our nation with a responsible plan for bringing our troops home. The president should heed the advice of the American people and allow this funding bill to become law.
Nothing like the Democrat machine....whoops, I forgot Stalin in the 30s.
The Democrat-controlled US Congress is also dysfunctional.
Got a little mental adjustment from the KGB, ‘eh, congressman?
No good word goes unpunished.
The surge just got underway on June, Murtha (and your puppeteers.) It has only yielded strong results recently.
Give it time, freakjob Democrats. This is not some TV show where everything gets tied up neatly in a prescribed timeline.
In other words, sod off, Murtha.
“When I said the surge was working, what I meant was that it was a total failure.”
Looks the the Democratic Crime Syndicate sent out the enforcers and got Murtha’s “mind right”.
flopping around like a fish out of water
He got dirt in Boss P’s hole, but he’s got his mind right now...
"uh, what I meant was, uh"
The fact remains that the war in Iraq cannot be won militarily, and that we must begin an orderly redeployment of U.S. forces from Iraq as soon as practicable.
Translation: "I didn't mean to imply that I'm not still in favor of declaring defeat."
BWAHAHA! Accursed LIARS all of the stinking pack!
Murtha got a call, LOL.
At least he didn’t git rabbit in the blood. Boss P would have to put a set of chains on him to slow him down...
“Murtha, a former Marine and top adviser to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) on military matters, had often said previously that the surge is not working.”
EX-Marine - not former Marine.
Senile Old Grafter alert!
My daddy would say that the Dem leadership has photographs of Murtha in a house of ill-repute . . .
Murtha is a liar, a crook and buffoon. He spent about one day of his four-day junket in Iraq. He has no idea what “sacrifice” is.

San Fransisco Chronicle:
Iraqi lawmakers expressed outrage and resolve Friday in a rare session of parliament on the Muslim holy day, a day after a suicide bomber ripped through their cafeteria in a brazen attack inside Baghdad’s U.S.-guarded Green Zone.
