A British woman has died after being attacked by a pack of wild dogs as she walked her own pet dog in Bulgaria. The 56-year-old victim was named by the Foreign Office as Margaret Ann Gordon. She was originally from Wallsend on North Tyneside. Mrs Gordon's calls for help brought local villagers to the scene in Nedyalsko, but she reportedly died before an ambulance arrived. The victim had lived in Bulgaria with her husband for several years.
"The regional police in Yambol [region] said seven or eight dogs attacked her," a Foreign Office spokesman said of the death in the village, which is in the municipality of Straldja. "People living close by heard her shouts and screams and came to help," he added. There were reports a shepherd finally managed to drive the dogs away, but Mrs Gordon died from loss of blood before an ambulance arrived. It was reported she may have been an asthmatic. Packs of wild dogs are a common hazard in the country, with many beaches on the Black Sea out of bounds because of the animals. In the capital, Sofia, there are thought to be at least 35,000 street dogs. |
It’s a shame she didn’t own a pit bull.
Sounds like Bulgaria has no SPCA or Humane Society. People who can no longer take care of their pets just turn them lose. What a tragedy for all concerned.
It's a shame she didn't own a gun.
Pump shotgun.
True.
But the article said there were seven or eight dogs that attacked her. It would have been best if she had had a nice big mean territorial dog of her own.
A few years ago my own brother was very nearly killed by 4 vicious dogs as he and he wife walked through their own neighborhood. He fought the dogs for a couple of minutes while protecting his wife from the onslaught, and he said that just as the dogs had him so exhausted that he couldn’t stay on his feet any longer, a passerby in a car stopped and let them into the car and drove him to the hospital, where he took stitches by the hundreds.
The good Samaratin had a car covered in blood for the trouble.
The owners of the dogs had been in trouble more than once before for similar problems. After each event they had moved to avoid the animal control authorities.
Final verdict: Dogs were put down. Owners paid nothing because they were a sob-story.
My brother survived, thank the Lord Jesus, and that’s all I really care about. But this kind of thing is not unheard of here in the good old USA.
Oh, my goodness! Not an asthmatic! Why, that's so relevant to her being attacked by wild dogs in Bulgaria!
She might have not got enough air and that might have aided the attack of the dogs, and also if she was asthmatic the paramedics might have had a harder time getting air into her or treating her, resulting in her death.
RIP.
hear=her
Oh, I guess that makes sense. The author could have mentioned some relationship between asthma and the lady’s death ...
IMO the dogs as well as the owners should have been put down. I am glad your brother is ok now.....
Why would ANYONE leave the UK to go live in Bulgaria?
