Lynchburg, VA - He's huge in Iowa, and making headlines everyday. Now a contender for the Republican presidential bid is in the Hill City. Governor Mike Huckabee spoke at Commencement at Liberty University Wednesday morning.

The religious right has gone mad!!!!

How is that? They are supporting the ONLY candidate in the race that is strong on social issues.

It's the fault of the Republican party for not assuring there is a conservative that can unify all factions of the party and is strong on social issues.

We can also blame Fred Thompson from running an terrible campaign and alienating social conservatives.

If Huckabee is the nominee, it will be President Hillary. It would be a general election slaughter.

Why else would the drive-by media be promoting Huckabee so much? Because they know he's the only one of all the R's who can't beat the Beast.

He's pro-life, pro-personal-sovereignty, pro-family-sovereignty, pro-national-sovereignty, anti-illegal-immigration, pro-strong-defense....

Pick what you don't like. (And the distorted and exaggerated reports on his previous actions and positions are getting tiresome.)

I'm a small-government, Evangelical Christian Conservative. What this demonstrates is that the schism in the R's is worse than I thought. Giuliani is unacceptable to one part of the coalition on a bunch of issues. Huckabee to another. And they are the two leading candidates. Both have an implicit message, "The other part of the coalition may jump in a lake." And the other part will.

The candidates that address the requirements of both sides of the coalition are Romney (after changes of heart), Thompson (after change of heart on CFR) and Hunter (never had to change his heart). And they are all running behind. Yuck.

Falwell should know better. Huckabee will tear the coalition apart just as surely as will Giuliani.

Sort of like the campaign against Rudy, Romney, Fred, et al? At this stage of the game, everyone is taking and receiving shots. Eventually support will coalesce around one nominee, but the extent of that eventual support depends on who it is. And if it is Huckabee, we are doomed. Your opinion must differ and that is why ballots are cast.

Evangelical Christians are getting behind Mike Huckabee. The truth is they are base of the Republican Party. A lot of people don't like em but no GOP presidential nominee can win next November without them.

It's also true that no GOP presidential candidate can win without libertarian votes. Libertarians aren't going to vote for Huckabee.
