EL DORADO | Foul play is suspected in the disappearance of a Butler Community College student missing since she left a bar Friday with a man, authorities said.

Emily Sander, 18, was last seen at the Retreat, a bar east of El Dorado......

“We just want to find her,” said her grandfather, Clement Sander. “There’s got to be a closure.”

At a news conference Monday, El Dorado police said they believe Sander is the victim of violence, but did not elaborate further on their evidence.

Detective Justin Phillips said Sander apparently left the bar with Israel Mireles, 24.

Police began investigating about 2:45 p.m. Saturday after Mireles did not show up to work at a restaurant next to the El Dorado Motel. The restaurant manager checked the motel room where Mireles was staying and reported there were signs that an altercation had occurred in the room.

On Monday, police said they tracked Mireles to Texas and wanted to find him before he crossed the Mexican border.

Kansas authorities released an image Tuesday night of a bedspread they say may help in the search for Emily Sander, an 18-year-old last seen Friday night leaving a bar with a man now wanted by police for questioning in the teen's disappearance.

"All we're saying is, we're looking for that bedspread and it's something we'd like to find," Capt. Justin Phillips of the El Dorado, Kansas, police department told ABC News. Related Stories

Tuesday night, authorities in Vernon, Texas, about 350 miles south of El Dorado, discovered a rental car used by Israel Mireles, 24. According to eyewitnesses, Mireles and Sander left the Retreat Bar in El Dorado together Friday night.

The floral bedspread police are looking for may be linked to the El Dorado motel where Mireles was temporarily living. An altercation took place in his motel room either late Friday or early Saturday that may have involved Sander. Motel managers notified El Dorado police, who since have treated Mireles' room as a crime scene.

"We have found some evidence that Emily may have been the victim of a violent crime," Phillips said Tuesday. "They are still processing that and have been for the last two days."

Mireles, along with his 16-year-old pregnant girlfriend, Victoria Martens, has not been seen since, though investigators don't believe Sander is traveling with them. Phillips said Tuesday that Mireles and Martens might be making a run for the border.

"We have some indication that they are attempting to cross into Mexico," he said. Mireles has family in Vernon.

Several people reported seeing Mireles, who has a "minor" criminal record, and Sander spending time together and then leaving the bar Friday night, but Phillips would not say whether she left with him voluntarily. Sander's car was found parked at the bar Saturday.

Authorities said they don't believe Martens was in the hotel room with Mireles and Sander when their altercation took place.

At a televised news conference Monday afternoon, Sander's grandfather Clement Sander appealed to the public for help in finding his granddaughter, a student at Butler Community College.

Mireles sounds like scum and should be charged with statutory rape. Maybe somebody can ID him from photos.

Can an 18 year old be statutorily raped?

It's clear that she is dead, sadly.

Was this guy an illegal from Mexico?

The article doesn't say. He was living in a motel and is headed to Mexico.

Why would an American citizen be running to Mexico? Why wouldn’t he run to California or New York or something?

It said his “girlfriend” was 16 (not 18) and pregnant. In some states at least this would qualify.

I see. That is statutory rape in most jurisdictions.

Why would an American citizen be running to Mexico? Why wouldn’t he run to California or New York or something?

Because he would be automatically extradited to KS if he was caught in NY or CA.

American citizens have commonly fled to Mexico because of the difficulty of extradition.

Gee, Gramps, she's only been gone 5 days. Let's try to have a little hope, at least for appearances sake.

Let me be bold here — The guy definitely was an illegal alien from Mexico, on the run with his 16-year old pregnant girlfriend. Illegal in the US/ Statutory Rape (but not at Planned Parenthood sites). They are running BACK HOME.

How do I know? Because the article did NOT mention it, and it is a glaring omission. My antennas are up.
