A Dutch conservative lawmaker said Wednesday he is making a film to highlight what he describes as "fascist" passages in the Quran, his latest high profile criticism of Islam.
The interior and justice ministers said they were concerned, but believed they had no authority to prevent the lawmaker, Geert Wilders, from screening his film.
Wilders plans to depict parts of the Quran he says are used as inspiration "by bad people to do bad things."
Less than 10 minutes long, the film is expected to air in late January. It will show "the intolerant and fascist character of the Quran," said Wilders, whose anti-Islam campaign helped his Freedom Party win nine seats in parliament in last year's election.
In the past, Wilders has said that half the Quran should be torn up and compared it with Adolf Hitler's book "Mein Kampf." He has claimed the Netherlands is being swamped by a "tsunami" of Islamic immigrants.
Immigrants from Muslim countries number about 1 million of the country's 16 million people.
Wilders' planned broadcast is reminiscent of the film "Submission" a fictional study of abused Muslim women with scenes of near-naked women with Quranic texts engraved on their flesh.
"Submission" director Theo van Gogh was shot and had his throat slit by a Muslim extremist on an Amsterdam street in 2004. Prominent Muslim critic Ayaan Hirsi Ali, who wrote the screenplay, was threatened in a note left on Van Gogh's body. She now lives under round-the-clock protection in the United States.

Wilders said he is not afraid of reprisals if his film angers Muslims. "I have lived with 24-hour protection for three years," he said.
"I will make the film and see what reaction it creates."
Dutch Muslim leaders did not immediately return calls seeking comment.

Geert Wilders ......... Dead man walking???
Hope he’s got his life insurance policy updated.
Boy, does this guy have a death wish!
If the Muslims don’t slit his throat the EU will prosecute him for “inciting hatred” or some other PC thoughtcrime charge.
Forewarned is forearmed.
I had a feeling this was on youtube. http://youtube.com/watch?v=SXGZBs65qMs
Good for him. Death to this death cult !
I wonder what the bookies odds are on his survival?
Perhaps this is the idea. The more Islamic irrationality and hatred of the west is on display to the native people of Europe the more likely they are to be provolked to action.
the honorable geer wilders forgot that it is more important to apologize for the crusades and the battle of tours.
The Netherlands has hate crime laws. Geert Wilders said the Koran ought to be banned under Dutch hate crime laws. He’s just calling for the enforcement of Dutch law upon all Dutch citizens, not only for the Euro-Dutch. Wilders has a real talent for exposing the hypocrisy of the tolerance-nazis.
The Dutch Lawmaker is not criticizing the Koran, the Koran critizes itself.
I’ll take ten copies....great Christmas gift for those who talk about a “religion of peace”.... :P
ping for viewing after work...
“...apologize for the Crusades and the Battle of Tours”
Don’t forget the Battle of Lepanto in 1571.
I think Mr. Wilders should let it be known that the bullets in his escort’s Glocks have been dipped in pig grease.
I thought they added dissing muzzies to the no skydiving, fire walking, cliff jumping, suicide clause?
Anti-Qur’an Film Worries Netherlands
THE HAGUE No sooner had controversial MP Geert Wilders, the leader of the far-right Freedom Party, announced a plan to produce a film about the Qur’an, than the government moved to avoid its possible fallout.
“I hope that it will open peoples eyes to the fact that the Qur’an should be banned like (Adolf Hitler’s book) Mein Kampf,” Wilders told ANP news agency on Wednesday, November 28.
He said the film will support his view that the Qur’an is “a horrible and fascist book” that inspires people to commit “awful acts”.
“I will make the film and see what reaction it creates.”
According to local media, Wilders plans to air the film on television in January but Dutch public broadcasters said they have received no request to show the movie.
Another possibility would be to air the film in special airtime given to all political parties.
The far-right lawmaker is known for his anti-Islam stance.
In August, he described the Muslim holy book as a “fascist” text which exhorts followers to kill and rape, comparing it to Mein Kampf, which outlines Hitler’s racist ideology.
In an open letter to Dutch newspapers, Wilders called for banning the Qur’an from the Netherlands.
He has also campaigned to ban the building of new mosques in the European country and halt all Muslim immigration.
His anti-Islam campaign has helped his far-right party win nine seats in last year’s parliamentary elections.
Concerns
Wilders’ film plans sparked immediate concerns.
Foreign Minister Maxime Verhagen met with the far-right lawmaker to discuss the issue.
“After Wilders announced he was making an anti-Islam film minister Verhagen met with him to point out the risks in making such a movie for himself and his entourage, and for the Netherlands and the Dutch interests abroad,” spokesman Bart Rijs told AFP.
The planned film is reminiscent of the two-part “Submission” by controversial Somali-born Ayaan Hirsi about Islam’s alleged oppression of women.
The documentary, blasted as “extremely insulting” by Dutch Muslims, led to the November 2004 killing of its director Theo Van Gogh.
The crime, committed by a Dutch man of Moroccan origin, was vehemently condemned by the sizable Muslim minority.
Justice Minister Hirsch Ballin said all parties must show respect for all religions and for what is sacred to others.
“We owe respect to each other.”
The minister stressed that if this boundary is overstepped, the government will oppose the film.
Justice Ministry spokesman Wim van der Weegen said the government is “taking measures” before the broadcast of Wilders’ film, declining to elaborate.
Islam-list
If people want on or off this list, please let me know.
The guy doesn't really have a clue? Perhaps he should talk to Salman Rushdie.
