Paris suburb riots called 'a lot worse' than in 2005
Int'l Herald Tribune/NYT ^ | November 27, 2007 | Elaine Sciolino

PARIS: The rituals and acts of rage have an eerie sameness to them: roving gangs of angry youths clashing with the riot police in France's edgy suburbs, the government appealing for calm, local officials and residents complaining that their problems are ignored.

Two years after an orgy of violence in which rioters in more than 300 suburbs and towns torched cars, trashed businesses and ambushed the riot police and firefighters, Villiers-le-Bel and several nearby suburbs of Paris similarly have erupted in violence and destruction.

In one sense, the unrest seems to be more menacing than during the early days of the three weeks of rioting in 2005. Then, the youth seemed disorganized, their destruction largely caused by rock-throwing and arson and aimed at the closest and easiest targets, like cars. This time, hunting shotguns, as well as gasoline bombs and rocks, have been turned on the police.

"From what our colleagues on the scene tell us, this is a situation that is a lot worse than what we saw in 2005," Patrice Ribeiro, a police officer and senior union official, told RTL radio Tuesday. He added, "A line was crossed last night, that is to say, they used weapons, they used weapons and fired on the police. This is a real guerrilla war."

Ribeiro warned that the police, who have struggled to avoid excessive force, would not be fired upon indefinitely without responding.

Look at how smug, arrogant those muslim punks are, dancing on the cop car. That is their attitude about their new land, free coutnry they live in. Welfare, steal, cheat, lazy little punks. They are like that everywhere in W europe, and equally DESPISED. I’m Swedish, my relatives over their keep me informed about what is going on.

...shoot back for crying out loud!....it’s sad to see a once proud Christian nation reduced to such cowardice....the West is going to have to eventually have to stand and fight Islam some time.....might as well start now.

My wife is Italian, and has many relatives in Europe (mostly Milan and outside London). Here’s her take on the current problems with the Moslems:

Soon there will come a point when the European cultural response will emerge, as it has done in the past. Expect mass expulsions of people, ethnic cleansing, supernationistic movements, and some kind of “loyalty” testing to confirm who is who and what is what. She says that the current liberal-socialist veneer over the Continent is a thin sheet that hides centuries of ruthlessness and bloodshed, and that very soon the Moslems will “get it in the neck,” as she says it (apparently that’s an old Italian saying).

We’ll see.

"police response"

They were fired upon...30 officers wounded by firearms.

In any civilized country interested in survival, all the rioters would have been shot in the streets.

In 2005, during 20 nights of rioting 8,973 automobiles were burned. That's almost 449 cars per night.

I'm trying to get insurance data regarding the owners and the like, but it may take sometime.

It was Napoleon, another non French leader of France, who coined the term “a whiff of grapeshot”.

Since these guys love to burn cars, the French need to send them home in one.... off the deck of their aircraft carrier.

Allah Ak. . . gurgle, gurgle, gurgle.

I think he’s preparing the French people for a police response.

Police? I think it's already beyond that. Do the French have anything like the National Guard? I guess they could sic the Foreign Legion on them, but I suspect they'd prefer French "Regulars".

If the politicians let it go much farther, they might have to destroy the suburbs to save them, and of course France itself.

"whiff of grapeshot"

That's precisely the type of "shotgun" the Parisian police should be using...5 inch bore and loaded with 1/2 inch shot.
