(CNN) -- Sudan has arrested a British teacher for insulting faith and religion, the British Foreign Office said Monday.
Numerous media reports say Gibbons was arrested after allowing her class of 7-year-olds to name a teddy bear "Mohammed."
That could be seen as an insult to the Prophet Mohammed, the reports said.

If I had a pig I could name it for Moe the False Prophet, what would they think about that?
32 And while the children of Israel were in the wilderness, they found a man that gathered sticks upon the sabbath day.
33they that found him gathering sticks brought him unto Moses and Aaron, and unto all the congregation.
34And they put him in ward, because it was not declared what should be done to him.
35And the LORD said unto Moses, The man shall be surely put to death: all the congregation shall stone him with stones without the camp.
36And all the congregation brought him without the camp, and stoned him with stones, and he died; as the LORD commanded Moses.
I'm curious whether it's a "barbaric" religion that worships a God who orders His people to stone one of the members for collecting firewood on the Sabbath.
Her face alone deserves the lashes!
Ah, yes...you could even expand that a bit...and point out that "of Fatima" refers to the town in Portugal...which was named after the Islamic woman Fatima who converted to Christianity!
You're welcome. :-)
I once looked it up, and that's what I had found. I just checked Wikipedia and there's some information on there... try looking at the entry for Fátima, Portugal...subhead "Toponomy" and Ourém...subhead "Legend".
I don't read Portuguese and I don't recall anything more than what's in these entries, but perhaps you can find more information on the Chronicle of the Order of Cister (1602) [maybe that's also known as "la Coronica del Orden de Cister (Madrid, 1602)?"]
A. Perhaps it’s a metaphor...things in the Bible are metaphors, maybe same goes for the Torah (I’m not an expert)
B. It was written centuries ago, when stonings and such were not uncommon
C. The Jews, unlike the Muslims, have moved on from the 7th century and don’t stick to nearly as many archaeic practices (i.e. beheadings, lashings...”justice” in Saudi Arabia, for example), and if you comapre Judaism to Islam on a whole, Islam is responsible for far more deaths and barbaric practices
The God of the Old Testament seems harsh, doesn't He?
He actually "Laid Down the LAW!" - didn't He?
Was God justified in doing that?
He certainly was.
You might call it "picking up sticks" - but God gave a very simple commandment - and man chose to defy God.
You can't defy God and hope to Live.
But - listen carefully - there is a difference (a MASSIVE) difference between the God of Israel, His son Yeshua, and the "god" of Islam.
Read Psalm 52. Or Psalm 28. Or Psalm 36. For that matter, read the Gospels. Jesus was merciful beyond belief!
Read the bible. It is full of references to God's mercy. He was so merciful - He sent His son to be tortured and die for you and me.
Then read the Koran.
"To the unbelievers, garments of fire shall be cut up and over their heads boiling water shall be poured; Whereby whatever is in their bellies and in their skins shall be melted. And for them are iron rods.
Surra 22
The difference is (to you .... living today) - God is harsh. But which "god" do you want to serve?
The God of Israel was harsh, but He was also merciful. Jesus is the ultimate in mercy.
Where do you stand?
This is what I think of Islam.
Their 'god' is evil - it is Satanic - and it has imprisoned those souls. Do you think the success of modern Israel, or of the once Christian West, is just an accident of nature compared to the pagan, or Islamic so called "third world?"
Does the bible not say that God blessed His own? What else does the bible say?
Here is a question God asks of us: What should the penalty be for defying God's law - any of it?
Before you answer, know that I failed in my answer. I was the worst sinner of all.
A lie? I have told many. I have not murdered anyone, but I have lusted in my heart, looked at porn on the Internet, and got drunk. All of those are against God.
For all of that, I deserve God's judgment. Do you know (I mean REALLY know) what that is?
Do you know that the Angels who defied God --- defied Him ONCE!!!!! --- and THAT was it. They went to Hell. Forever. No mercy. No second chance. No lawyers. No purgatory. No plea bargain. No statement to the court. No Nothing.
You and I live in the Age of Grace.
The arms of Christ are wide open. If you come to Him, and confess your sins, and ask Him to come into your life, you won't go to Hell.
This isn't something I made up.
I hope you think about it.
A woman saved by Christ wrote this:
Take care. Meditate a little on this mercy of the Lord. It is tender mercy. With gentle, loving touch, he healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds. He is as gracious in the manner of his mercy as in the matter of it. It is great mercy. There is nothing little in God; his mercy is like himselfit is infinite. You cannot measure it. His mercy is so great that it forgives great sins to great sinners, after great lengths of time, and then gives great favours and great privileges, and raises us up to great enjoyments in the great heaven of the great God. It is undeserved mercy, as indeed all true mercy must be, for deserved mercy is only a misnomer for justice.
“I understand King Fahd can commute the sentence”
“Isn’t he a Saudi? She was arrested by Sudan.”
Of course, you are right. I was thinking about the poor soul about to undergo 200 lashings after reporting her rape. I am mixing up my Muslim atrocities.
I thought about that too.
Here on Free Republic, and on many Blogs, we hear the justified sarcasm: "Where is the National Organization of Woman (NOW)?"
Very good question. Where the hell are they?!!!
The answer is: they were never for the rights of woman and girls anyway. They only served an evil purpose - and their true "enemy" is God.
They cannot condemn Islam - this is what NOW is - evil.
Hey, Muslim Assholes, meet my pig, Mohammed...
Only if we show them that the life of Christ is so much better, so much happier, so free - then will they see.
Have you ever been around people you wanted to be like? That was me - when I met true Christians. I wanted to be like them.
I thought: "What do they have?"
Are those who do not believe that Jesus of Nazareth has brought a New Testament--and forgiveness through Him--"barbaric"?
If I were to reply to the remainder of your post, you would likely find me rude, even though it wouldn't be my intent. I appreciate you taking the time to explain your views and offer me the opportunity to share in the comfort you have obviously found, and I don't mean to be insulting in my disagreement.
