Clinton Says She'd Tap Colin Powell for Foreign Policy Expertise If Elected
FOX News ^ | Nov. 27, 2007 | Staff

SPARTANBURG, S.C. — Hillary Clinton said Tuesday that if elected U.S. president she would call on former Secretary of State Colin Powell as part of a bipartisan diplomatic delegation to be sent abroad to restore America's image.

Noting Powell's foreign policy expertise, Clinton publicly offered fresh details in her plan — often described in general terms — that she says she would institute before her would-be inauguration.

Clinton has previously mentioned Powell and George H.W. Bush as potential members of that delegation during interviews, but rarely names names when speaking publicly.

But Tuesday she specifically told a group of black ministers who were endorsing her in Spartanburg, S.C., that to restore the country's reputation, she would tap the man who under President Bush led the foreign policy argument to invade Iraq in pursuit of weapons of mass destruction.

"I won't even wait until I'm inaugurated, but as soon as I'm elected I'm going to be asking distinguished Americans of both parties — people like Colin Powell, for example and others — who can represent our country well, including someone I know very well, " she said smiling while making reference to her husband and former President Bill Clinton. "Because I want to send a message heard across the world. The era of cowboy diplomacy is over."

“I’ve always thought Colin Powell a good and decent man. That he left the Bush Administration (was “invited” to leave, actually) because he disagreed with Bush on the handling of the Iraq war was unfortunate, but the man stood his ground. He might see it necessary to get back into the political arena if it means for the good of his country.”

I think it was Powell who told Bush re: Iraq...”you break it, you own it”.

He’d be able to stab Republicans in general, Americans in particular, in the back again with official standing.

The over-reaching hubris of this woman is absolutely stunning. Have you ever noticed that every sentence out of her mouth has 3 or 4 "I's" in it? That's all I can say right now without popping a blood vessel in my head...

I’m not usually a tinfoil type, but this whole thing screams of some Clinton-Bush dynasty alliance sort of thing.
The Bush family does exhibit a depressing propensity to suck up to liberals. Poppa Bush was practically down on his knees to the Fat Swimmer a few years back at the opening of the Poppa Library.

No way she could be stupid enough to mention Powells name at a campaign event without having previously cleared it with him. Powell is too big a name to just drop haphazard.

Powell has apparently turned to the dark side - officially. Expect to see him being used as the antidote to ‘not enough experience in foreign policy’ from the Hillary squad.

Saw that ad, I was wondering who the fat girl was.
Still don't know anything about her, except now I know her name. Thanks.

Right. And wise counsel it was. In other words - no withdrawal until the job is done.

Just more Clintonspeak. It all depends on what the meaning of the word “like” is. Like what? A man? A Black? etc.

But I also must comment on the whole “restore America’s image” thing. There was a thread the other day that was saying it: the world doesn’t hate us; it’s the world’s lefties that hate us...

Let's also review his Supreme Court appointee.

He sure did and when Powell did that he might as well painted a sign on his chest what he truly was and is.
Disgusting!
