Deer hunters prove guns aren’t the problem
Greater Milwaukee Today ^ | 11/21/07 | Mark Belling

About 650,000 armed men have been roaming around Wisconsin the last few days. Yet there are no reports of any of them killing each other intentionally and, as of Monday, only one had died in an accident. Yet, we are lectured over and over by the liberal apologentsia that the reason there’s so much violence in urban America is because of easy access to guns. Yeah, then how come the deer hunters aren’t killing each other? In fact, Wisconsin’s deer hunt is everything Milwaukee’s central city isn’t. Despite the often heavy drinking, inevitable tensions between close family members, squabbles over who has a right to hunt where, pressure to get the big buck and the sheer firepower of the average deer rifle, incidents almost never occur. As of Monday evening, there was a lone single fatal accident.

The clichŽ that "guns don’t kill people, people kill people" sounds trite but the peace of the Wisconsin deer hunt proves its truth. The shooting gallery in Milwaukee’s central city and near south side has nothing to do with access to guns and everything to do with a breakdown of culture. The fact that the majority of the criminals are black or Hispanic has gagged white liberals into silence about the real problems. Black leaders, with the rare exception of a Bill Cosby or Sheriff David Clarke, are nonexistent. In the meantime, tens of thousands of kids are being raised without fathers by young mothers. Many of those moms are themselves on drugs or involved in crime. Gang leaders rule neighborhoods. Yes, they use guns. So do the deer hunters. The difference is that the deer hunters have values and responsibility.

Deer hunters and any legal gun owner in general take the label assigned to them by the left....we’re all gun nuts.
The article is spot on.

The background checks that are in place today are designed to keep guns out of the hands of criminals.

Yeah, and they work about as well as the "War On Drugs" has in keeping the inner city clean and free of illicit substances.

GtG

PS The (black) market will supply a demand wherever it develops. Throwing government money at the problem just forces prices up.

How does one test for CWD? (Chronic wasting disease?)

I recently moved to a protein rich and gun friendly state but have never been hunting. Took my state’s bow hunting course last spring but got busy and never got around to practicing archery or doing anything hunting related. I do want to learn more and hopefully be ready (bow and/or gun) for next year’s season. Not interested in a trophy hunt but would enjoy a day in the woods and a full freezer.

The Vick situation was not a gun violence issue, it was an animal rights issue. When I said that, the point was that I do not remember ever hearing the hunters being brought up in a gun violence debate. Deer hunting is legal, dog fighting is not. So, in conclusion, I agree it is an outrage, but my comment wasn’t directed at animal rights, but gun violence.

Some goober in a gooberment uniform can’t protect you or any citizen. The Supreme Court has stated (correctly, according to the Constitution) that the cop on the corner is not responsible for the prevention of crime s against the citizens on his beat.

An armed citizenry once did protect against the inevitable social predators which are always amongst us. Police are a relatively recent invention.

Get a gun because the armed are able to live free of rear and predation.

The following summarizes the armed citizen discussion:
1. Historic American Belief: Know guns, know peace.

2. Leftist (socialist) belief: No guns, no peace.

People have rights, not animals.
