(Former (Liberal) Prime Minister Jean) Chretien tells TV host he believes U.S. invasion of Iraq was for oil
MONTREAL Jean Chretien believes the United States invaded Iraq for oil.
The former prime minister told the popular Radio-Canada television show Tout le monde en parle why he thinks U.S. President George W. Bush declared war on the Middle Eastern country in 2003.
There are some people who suspect it was oil, for the control of oil. . . , Chretien said in French during the interview, which aired Sunday evening.
The shows host, Guy A. Lepage, then told Chretien he thinks everyone believes the invasion was for oil.
Well, me too, Chretien said.
In 2003, Chretien said he would not send Canadian troops to Iraq without UN approval.
Saddam (Hussein) was a very bad dictator, but he was not a religious dictator, he said Sunday.
He fought against religious leaders in Iran, and that was an excuse (for the Americans) to go to Iraq. It doesnt make sense.
No joke.
Oh, wait. Is that a warning to me?
What is the Canadian equivalent to Fort Marcy Park?
There are some people who suspect it was oil, for the control of oil. . . ,
Hilarious, coming from the guy whose daughter is married into the Desmarais family.

LOL! Ah, yes, the Total connection! Nutting to see dere, dat’s for shure!
Just a reminder of how mindlessly corrupt the Liberals were under his leadership. Besides, I love that poster.
Thanks!
I heard about it too.
The US didn’t want us in Iraq.
They wanted us in Afghanistan.
Regardless of how he tries to spin it, Chretien sent our troops to Afghanistan.
We always we doing our part in the WOT, but the Liberal Gov. denied it all the way.
Who cares what he thinks? Never mind the fact he’s obviously wrong - if we invaded for oil, where the heck is it?
We are still waiting for the cheap gas.....what a moron.
This is really too coincidental. I was telling a neighbor (over a dead TV out on the curb for the garbage men to haul off) that I thought Jean Chretien was a moron!!
Who knew he’d come out publicly and demonstrate it on TV!!??
okay, all I could find so far is this””We have not been asked and we do not intend to participate in a group of the willing,”
I’ll keep looking.
The inverse to that question would be "How wonderful can Canada be with a great PM (Stephen Harper)?"
Me too.
Thanks for posting it.
Steyn did a column almost two years ago, pointing out some of the connections of number of recent Canadian PMs to Desmarais, familial and otherwise.
That column was the first time I saw the name "Sarkozy", too, since he made a trip to kiss the ring, er, consult with Desmarais, Total being the being the big oil company in France (the country, not Chretien's daughter).
I think Steyn said Sarkozy was "most likely" the next President of France.
If it was all about Oil the easy cheapest and best way(price) to get that oil was to accommodate and deal with Saddam and look the other way and or bury you head in the sand ....
The war was not about oil .. the the so called "anti-war" was
You are right.
Now go explain it to a liberal.
;-)
Would we have to feign an interest in hockey? Gotta draw the line somewhere...
Iraq for oil!
Next, we want Iranian oil!
After that we want Venezuela oil!
No.
I don't.
It makes sense if the Canadians have stupid people like the USA with it’s Democrats. They will believe anything that hurts our country.
Poor ole Chretien, he is not only ugly as sin he is also dumb as a box of rocks.
Thank you Anggapo.
That's the unfortunate truth of the matter.
Liberals who hate the US (and the West) more than they hate the terrorists all pitch the same BS—we invaded for oil. Well...where IS the oil? If we were there for oil, why have we removed a dictator from power, kicked al-Q’s a$$, and taken NO oil whatsoever from Iraq and not had a signifcant drop in gas prices? Answer: Because we’re not their for oil, you morons!
