This is a rush transcript from "FOX News Sunday," November 25, 2007. This copy may not be in its final form and may be updated.
CHRIS WALLACE, HOST: I'm Chris Wallace and this is "FOX News Sunday."
The Republican race for president took a surprising turn right here last spring.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
WALLACE: Question: Are you considering running for president in 2008?
FRED THOMPSON, FORMER U.S. SENATOR: I'm giving some thought to it. Going to leave the door open.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
WALLACE: Now, eight months later, Fred Thompson is running hard. In a Sunday exclusive, we'll find out what he's learned and what he needs to do to win the nomination, as we continue our series, Choosing the President.
And, Senator, welcome back to "FOX News Sunday."
THOMPSON: Thank you. Good to be with you.
WALLACE: Your campaign tells us you have a new tax plan you want to unveil today. What is it?

I think Fred has done an awful lot of shooting himself in the foot. I don’t believe he is a serious candidate anymore.

Fred Barnes and some at NR are open borders . Barnes is a beltway idiot!

I honestly don't know how you could come to that conclusion if you had actually watched the interview.
You probably did not, and if you did, I seriously doubt your objectivity.
I watched that interview and he did an absolutely wonderful job of respectfully showing how FoxNews is doing a lousy, biased job presenting political news this campaign season.
He hit this one out of the park!

Totally agree. We need someone as President who can stand up to the press in aan adult manner. Fred has shown that he can do that on multiple occasions.

Don’t bite the hand that feeds you. Yes I did see it and I don’t think he did himself any good. I think that he will be out of the race following the South Carolina returns if not sooner.
To: Old Retired Army Guy
I could not disagree with you more.
Romney will be the one out of the race by the time the votes are counted in South Carolina!
To: Old Retired Army Guy
I don’t think this was his finest moment, but I think he is a very serious candidate with a real shot at being the nominee. Now that doesn’t mean I want him to be the nominee, but I’m just saying it’s a mistake to count him out. I’m interested to see if there are unintended consequences to his overreaction. Clearly his supporters are happy. But they were happy anyway.

THOMPSON: But you have the right to put in your one side, and put in the Fox side, and I have the right to respond to it. And thankfully, you've given me that opportunity.

I know of one family member who religiously watches FoxNews and was buying their mantra that his campaign was over and after that interview, she was totally convinced that Fred was the man for the job and she also stated that he really reminded her of Reagan with the way he handled himself in the interview.
To: SoConPubbie
Romney may be gone after New Hampshire.
To: Old Retired Army Guy
My takeaway from that interview is that Thompson is the
only serious candidate.
And, in a face-off with Chris Wallace, he didn't cackle.

(President Fred -- I like the sound of it.)
To: stephenjohnbanker
Wallace was relentless from the outset, he challenged Fred from the point all the way through the response.
Fred stayed on message and handled the interview very well, but where is the equally challenging treatment of the other candidates? I doubt any of them could stand the heat as well as Fred did. Certainly not Hillary.

Romney may be gone after New Hampshire.
So tell me again why Fred would be gone by South Carolina if Romney drops out after New Hampshire???

Just please note that Fox News is the network that aired this show as well as the other show.
