Stem Cell Silence: Maybe Democrats Want to Destroy Embryos
North Star Writers Group ^ | November 26, 2007 | Dan Calabrese

It appears as if it may soon become easier for lives to be saved without lives being destroyed. Great news, right?

You’d think so, but in the everything-is-partisan world in which we live, celebrations are limited to one side of the aisle.

Dr. James Thomson of the University of Wisconsin – the man who pioneered embryonic stem cell research even while harboring ethical misgivings about the destruction of life it required – is now reporting he may have found a way to get the same kinds of stem cells from adult skin.

If true, the debate is over. Those who object to the creation of life for the purpose of destroying it can rest assured that no such abomination is necessary. And those who want to press ahead with stem cell research in the pursuit of cures for horrible diseases will be able to do so.

Everybody wins!

Oh, you silly. It’s never that easy, now is it?

The issue is NOT about finding cures from embryonic stem cells,

the issue is about ABORTION, which requires that conceived embryos have absolutely no value as human beings.

Watch - they’ll state that this skin cell stuff is great and all, but embryonic research needs to continue, even though it has produced nothing worthwhile.

It’s not about the stemcells, it’s about abortion.

Sen. Tom Harkin (D-Iowa) issued a statement dismissing the relevance of the development and vowing to press ahead with embryonic stem cell research anyway, because “scientists may yet find that embryonic stem cells are more powerful.”

And these people are crying about people dying in Bush’s Wars.

If liberals joined in the sigh of relief over not having to destroy embryos, they would be acknowledging that there was any ethical dilemma in the first place. They don’t want to acknowledge that. It would require a tip of the hat to the notion that life is precious.

That's it in a nutshell. Liberalism is now a religion, its heaven is the UN, its Satan is GW Bush, its cosmology is Global Warmism, and its holy sacrament is abortion.

As it is with the abortion issue, it is not the sanctity of life that is at issue, but the POWER to take it. The liberals don’t want safe stem cell research, but the power to create and destroy life.

Making use of aborted children makes it easier to farm body parts. I believe the agenda was to separate fetal tissue from life thereby opening the door to a comfortable coexistance with creating clones for medical use of their body parts. The latest development is a setback. They will have to find a way to further justify the creation of embryos to get back on track.

Bingo.

It’s the money... they stand to lose big in grants, donations, gifts... etc.

Yep, called this one -

we have to continue destroying embryos, otherwise it would be acknowledging their human value.

I’ve always felt this issue was decidedly very, very dark.

I don’t think this issue is about money, science or politics. I’ve come to believe - and I know some think this naive - that this issue is the physical manifestation of a spiritual battle.

I happen to think the people who favor the destruction of life at any cost - be they Tom Harkin or Michael J. Fox - are moved and manipulated, either knowingly or unknowingly, by evil. In fact, I can’t conjure up a more rational explanation.

The fact they want to keep on destroying embryos when they apparantly don’t have to speaks volumes.

Embryonic stem cell research has become one of the left’s strange article-of-faith type issues in recent years – along with their certainty about global warming and their emotional investment in America’s defeat in Iraq.

It’s hard to rationally explain the motives of the irrational. Keep in mind, you’re dealing with people who have no problem with the destruction of innocent life inside the womb, yet pitch a major fit when a convicted murderer is put to death.

How do you rationalize that? You don’t...hence the liberal mind on it’s most stunningly misguided display.

I would rewrite the title of this one to “Maybe Democrats Only Wanted to Kill Embryos In The First Place and Never Cared About Curing Anything”.

There. That makes more sense in light of the increasing evidence against wasting more time and money on creating and killing embryos or fetuses.

Keep in mind a couple of things.

1. Thousands of embryos are destroyed in the US alone every day. Fertility clinics are the biggest destroyer, not scientists.

2. Many embryos were destroyed in this research, and will continue to be destroyed, even though the actual process will not use embryos, when it is used.

3. This research, while it is a good thing, is entirely dependent on embryonic stem cells and destruction of embryos, without it, this process would not exist. Without continued destruction of embryos, it will not progress.

This issue is not as black and white as everyone thinks it is. Embryo destruction is so common in this country that most people don’t even realize it happens, yet there is very little being done to regulate the industry. Why?

The biggest question for me is whether this process can in fact be compatible with a pro life outlook, because it was created by and from ESC destruction. I haven’t decided, but people should look at these issues carefully before making accusations of others and their views.

"If human embryonic stem cell research does not make you at least a little bit uncomfortable, you have not thought about it enough," he said. "I thought long and hard about whether I would do it.""
-Dr. James Thomson

Not good enough, but it beats the "damn the ethics, full speed ahead!" attitude of the would-be science boosters.

I realize that the ESC desctruction is a complicated issue, but the main point that people on the left had no comment or downplayed the significance of this potential break through proves that for some the sanctity of life is not important to them.
