Des Moines, IA Republican presidential candidate Alan Keyes has accepted an invitation to participate in the last scheduled and in some ways most important Republican debate before the Jan. 3 first-in-the-nation Iowa Caucus.
The Des Moines Register's Republican Presidential Debate is scheduled for 1:00 pm on Dec. 12 at Iowa Public Television's Maytag Auditorium in Johnston, Iowa.
At last report, all major Republican candidates except former NY mayor Rudy Giuliani have also accepted the invitation to participate.
The Des Moines Register has a reputation for putting on fair and informative events. Their debates have become an Iowa tradition that reporters and editors from across the nation take seriously.
The debate will be broadcast live on statewide Iowa Public Television from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. (CT) Dec. 12, and will be re-broadcast at a later time on IPTV. The program will also be offered to public television stations across the country.
Ambassador Keyes expressed his thanks to the sponsors of the event, saying, "I'm grateful to those who will not abandon their resolve to raise the standard of political integrity. I pray God that my participation in the debate will vindicate their good will."
I like Alan Keyes... but if Fred was “late” by not entering the race in July, how can a December start be reasonable for Keyes?
I guess his speaking engagement requests have slowed down.
Keyes is full of himself..........not a good trait for a minister
?
But of course a December start is not reasonable for Keyes as there is obviously no expectation of winning anything other than some more face time... and perhaps the possibility of further diluting the vote on the one issue Keyes champions.
I thought they were going to limit the debate to those to over 5% in the polls?
What is the point? Keyes is a fine man, but he need not be in the race. Why doesn’t the guy get elected to Congress? He’d be a great hell-raiser on the floor. :)
If nothing else he, with the little mic time he gets, will certainly make his points passionately.
I am supporting Fred Dalton Thompson this time around but welcome Dr. Keyes into the debate.
Didn’t he try that and lose?
keys is there to keep Giuliani in front. another useful idiot as ballast to keep any other candidate from threatening the NYC homeboy for the NYC centric media.
Pity.
Why?
After his disastrous run for Senate against Obama, I have a very hard time taking this man seriously anymore.
I would say that less than 1% of the voting electorate have any clue that he’s running.
More bloviating from Keyes when the serious contenders could use the time. It’s turning into another Keyes Carnival.
An exercise in abject futility.
Taking the spotlight to speak is a favorite of Keyes. He wants and needs the limelight.
I used to like the guy but now I think he’s just plain nuts. Running for President is not a lifetime occupation for normal people.
Why hasn't Rudy signed up yet?
Reparations?
