Islamists target Arizona base
The Washington Times ^ | November 26, 2007 | Sara A. Carter

Fort Huachuca, the nation's largest intelligence-training center, changed security measures in May after being warned that Islamist terrorists, with the aid of Mexican drug cartels, were planning an attack on the facility.

Fort officials changed security measures after sources warned that possibly 60 Afghan and Iraqi terrorists were to be smuggled into the U.S. through underground tunnels with high-powered weapons to attack the Arizona Army base, according to multiple confidential law enforcement documents obtained by The Washington Times.

"A portion of the operatives were in the United States, with the remainder not yet in the United States," according to one of the documents, an FBI advisory that was distributed to the Defense Intelligence Agency, the CIA, Customs and Border Protection and the Justice Department, among several other law enforcement agencies throughout the nation. "The Afghanis and Iraqis shaved their beards so as not to appear to be Middle Easterners."

According to the FBI advisory, each Middle Easterner paid Mexican drug lords $20,000 "or the equivalent in weapons" for the cartel's assistance in smuggling them and their weapons through tunnels along the border into the U.S. The weapons would be sent through tunnels that supposedly ended in Arizona and New Mexico, but the Islamist terrorists would be smuggled through Laredo, Texas, and reclaim the weapons later.

A number of the Afghans and Iraqis are already in a safe house in Texas, the FBI advisory said.

Fort Huachuca, which lies about 20 miles from the Mexican border, has members of all four service branches training in intelligence and secret operations. About 12,000 persons work at the fort and many have their families on base.

Still more proof that failure to secure our borders leaves us open to infiltration and attack. This is deplorable.

Build the fence. Man the border. Round up and deport current illegals. It ain’t rocket science.

Duncan Hunter has already built some of the fence along San Diego and will finish it when he becomes President.

True, with the strength of appropriate Border control this would’nt be an option for the “Islamists”.

You have to read and ignore the article until you reach the last four paragraphs which begin with “However”.

This can’t be. The open borders folks have assured me that no terrorist has ever snuck across the border.

This is not the first case of strikes planned on US military installations. It has not catched attention by media, but months or years ago, a suspicious man holding a rocket or missile aiming it at a base in US alerted a security gaurd or police nearby, forcing the suspicious man away. There was another case in a foreign US military installation which I cannot disclose which a man with Arab origin, according to my source, attempt to sneak into the base, but was caught. This attempt also however was not reported by the national media. After Iraq War begun, there has been more than 100 failed attempts by terrorists against the US.

This is revolving around the $5 billion Mexican-American Drug deal.

We know that executives are in agreement and we know that the US Congressional delegation has met with the Mexican congress.

The legislation is only a few months away.

The left wing populists in Mexico and the right wing populists in the US will not be happy.

There are sources on the internet that claim that a portion of the drug intervention money will be used for perimeter security to further SPP.

You have to read and ignore the article until you reach the last four paragraphs which begin with “However”.

I did read the whole article and the "however" says their main sources are reliable, but they aren't sure about the sub-source who may be trying to point a finger at and direct US reaction to a drug cartel competitor. It continues on to say:

"It doesn't mean that there isn't truth to some of what this source delivered to U.S. agents," said one law-enforcement intelligence agent, on the condition of anonymity. "The cartels have no loyalty to any nation or person. It isn't surprising that for the right price they would assist terrorists, knowingly or unknowingly."

IOW reliable sources who have proven themselves in the past are telling the same story as the unproven sub-source (with the possible exception of the sub's finger at a specific rival). Yet you are trying to make it look like this was not a credible threat.

I hope anyone reading any of your other comments on anything will take this into consideration when evaluating your credibility. I know I will.

“A portion of the operatives were in the United States, with the remainder not yet in the United States”

Where is the “remainder”? In Mexico, I presume. How did they get into Mexico? They were invited in, of course. Does Bush know that Mexico is not a friend of the US, or does he even care? It’s time to think about getting our country out of the toilet before Gearge pulls the chain.
