I encountered in worse in Vietnam and Germany. The states was a bit safer, but Nam and Germany were bad. I knew this one guy in Bad Kissingen, West Germany, walking down the side walk on the Kasarne one night, just as he got to the edge of one building, and this was on the main street running through the Kasarne, as he got to the edge, a black guy was around the corner, swung a pipe and hit the guy square in the back and basically broke every bone in his face. Crushed his nose. He had to be Medivaced to the 97th General Hospital in Frankfurt. I heard that he needed many surgeries to put his face back together again with wire and stitches.
