COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Texas A&M University officials are trying to lure more students to take summer classes by slashing tuition in half.
Under the experimental program, tuition for undergraduates who are Texas residents will drop from $156 to $75 per credit hour in the second summer school session of 2008.
University officials and state lawmakers say the move could reduce the time students take to earn a bachelor's degree. If students graduate sooner, they free up seats for more incoming students.

A similar offer at California universities six years ago led to several campuses seeing sizable gains in summer enrollment, officials said.

Summer sessions usually offer a smaller selection of classes, but A&M officials plan to expand the university's offerings by adding upper-division courses and classes that fill up quickly during the regular school year.

That’s a bargain— get a whole semester out of the way at half-price.
Did they collect on the bet against Texas? (football game)
Many courses are better done by intense immersion rather than the 3 hour/15 week norm.
Oh great, more Aggies in Summer School.. There has to be a joke in there somewhere...
Nah. The joke was out on Kyle Field yesterday, and it wasn’t on the Aggies.
I think so. Franchione resigned less than an hour after beating Texas. I’m glad the game didn’t last two minutes longer.
Don’t remind me.
There is catch...school, in Texas, in the Summer...
Avg. Hi Avg. Lo
June 92.0° F 72.0° F
July 96.0° F 74.0° F
August 96.0° F 73.0° F
I think so, the Aggies beat the Longhorns yesterday 38-30.
Great move, but the professors will not like it if they were counting on having the summers off.
Summer school at A&M was a ton of fun when I went to school there. I would only take a few courses, and the campus was never crowded. The class sizes were also a lot smaller.
My girlfriends and I would take morning classes, and then hang out by the pool with our books in the afternoon.
The pace was so much slower than the regular summers.
I only went for 2 summers, but it was great!
Can you live in a dorm during the summer?
So what in the summer of 1980 it was over 100° F for about 40 days straight, and I ran about 6-7 miles 4-5 times a week starting about 4 pm. I often ran by the pig farm which is now the location of the Bush presdential library.
What do you call an Aggie with a pig under one arm and a chicken under the other arm?
Even if a professor taught both summer sessions, there’s plenty of time to take a long vacation either in May or August. How many people in the US outside of academia have the time to take month long vacations?
Heck I remember when the Mall in College Station was a cow pasture and living on the “edge” of town meant the Doux Chene Apartments.
Seems like just yesterday that I was paying $8 (yes, eight) per credit hour at TAMU.
“and I ran about 6-7 miles 4-5 times a week starting about 4 pm.”
Uphill, both ways...no doubt...
