Presidential hopeful and former U.S. Sen. Fred Thompson, R-Tenn., did a little Christmas shopping at Skip's Gun Shop in Bristol Friday afternoon, giving many local gun rights supporters a chance to meet the actor-turned-candidate who seems every bit in person the law-and-order character he plays on television.
Tall, tanned, and dressed in a blue suit, Thompson initially appeared a little out of place in a sporting goods store until he began speaking about gun rights and the Constitution.
"We've got a lot to be thankful for," began Thompson in his familiar drawl. "And I'm thankful to be among folks who appreciate the Second Amendment of the Constitution."

Later in the day, at Thompson's town-hall style forum at the Laconia Veterans of Foreign Wars gathering, he made sure to cover the state of veterans' health care, benefits, and other pressing issues, especially those being faced by young veterans.
"I have thought an awful lot over the years about how to honor these brave people," said Thompson, explaining the best way to do this is to make sure that the nation's veterans are cared for.
Thompson also said in both Bristol and Laconia, while the Cold War with Russia is a thing of the past, America is in a new type of war one that is far different from what Americans have faced before.
"If we can't protect our people, then nothing else matters, not our economy or anything else," said Thompson.

"As veterans we all know what it is to put on the uniform and take the oath to our country, and we need a candidate understands what that means," said Dave Kenney, the chair of Thompson's New Hampshire veterans' council.

Having read the candidate records and reviewed the majority of freeper comments regarding candidate positions I hereby announce my support for Fred Thompson for president.
I understand their desire to be catered to during primary season, but I hope they think about the country, too.
Skip’s Gun Shop is about the size of a size 10 shoebox. I’m surprized Fred even fit into that place. The place is a good location to shoot the bull though. (BTW...I played the part of Uncle Sam on the Bristol VFW parade float Memorial Day 1998 at the ripe age of 9 years).
We are happy to have you with us supporting FDT!
Welcome aboard Eddie!
In honor of Thanksgiving, let me welcome you to the grown up table! :)

Welcome aboard! It is true that when conservatives really look into the records of the Republican candidates, Fred outshines them all! I will say, however, that I believe Duncan Hunter would be in that position if Fred had not entered the race. I like and respect Duncan Hunter and do hope he is chosen by Fred to be his Secretary of Defense. Fred Thompson will continue to gain in the polls as more folks get to know his stands on the issues and his great leadership qualities! :)
Bump!
