This decision was reversed —

Nice of you to do a translation, but a regular news search might have been more productive.

The reason I did the translation is that none of English-language report says the naval exercise aspect. I think that this is more than a diplomatic snub to send a message.

China was conducting large-scale military exercise for blockade of Taiwan. They imposed flight ban on eastern coastal area, causing lots of flight delays, because of this exercise.

Both flight ban and Kitty Hawk incident can be nicely explained by this naval exercise.

This translated article shows the real picture behind these incidents.

“China Reverses, OKs U.S. Aircraft Carrier to Enter Hong Kong for Thanksgiving Hours After Sailors Left”
Thursday, November 22, 2007

AP

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “HONG KONG — China said thousands of American sailors on board a flotilla of U.S. warships could spend Thanksgiving in Hong Kong as planned, but Thursday’s message came hours after the ships had already left after earlier being refused entry to the city’s port.”

“ARTICLE SNIPPET: “This is a surprise,” Zweig said. “I haven’t heard of ships being turned away like this before. I’m also disappointed and saddened for the families who have flown here expecting to see their relatives and are not now going to have their reunions.””

Off Topic...

Zarqawi is dead now, of course, but when he was alive he said...

“ZARQAWI: ‘I READ IT IN THE LOS ANGELES TIMES’”

The decision was reversed, but only after the KH CSG had turned around and headed back to Japan...after it was too late for the sailors to spend their Holiday in Hong Kong as planned with many of their family members who had flown ahead to be there with them. So the sailors spent the holiday at sea and I am sure that they will tell you that the reversal meant exactly what it was worth...absolutely nothing.

Why waste our time with articles that don't give any information? A better question is why would you attack another FReeper that went to the trouble to give us the straight scoop, telling us more than the entire Western media has done?
