[history]
Its purpose is to silence free speech.
And, to shut down discussion of any and all subjects which offend the perpetually aggrieved, professional whiners & moaners.
The skull behind the Smiley Face of "political correctness" is revealed-- and bear in mind, the Legal Jackal, Richard Warman, behind all this is getting rich, using the law to cudgel people in to silence-- but the threat, to free speech, is real:

Oh, yeah, he wants $150,000 in damages, but he is willing to settle this for the bargain price of $10,900.
I can't think of any words that are contemptuous enough to use in response to that. |
Backhoe says:
What a sorry, conniving, thieving little bastard.
Abusing the might and majesty of the law to extort money from innocent people.
And, to silence them.
All under the aegis of "rights..."
At least with a common street criminal, you know you are dealing with a crook- he is nothing more than a silk-shirted thief.
Connie, you let us know what you need- me and Miss Emily are far from rich, but we'll scrape the floorboards, and I can always bump the fundraisers with drivel and doggerel and musings from the swamps of Georgia...
Get the meanest, most aggressive lawyer you can find.
The above story is a subset of this:

This affects all of us.
If Richard Warman, Hyena in a $1,000 suit, can silence one site- he can silence another.

Anti-racism activist wins libel judgment "..Mr. Warman expressed relief at the ruling. "Justice Métivier's decision has said that these baseless attacks against me were malicious and false," he said.
Mr. Fromm's dominant motive, Judge Métivier said in her ruling, was to attack Mr. Warman personally in retaliation for his use of legal processes to restrain illegal speech..."
Fromm is a Canadian White Supremacist. He is unpopular and detested and an easy target. Courts will be sympathetic to any plausible action against such people. It is no surprise Warman can win against him, or any real measure of his quality as a lawyer. Free Dominion, on the other hand is a Conservative Internet Forum composed of regular citizens and some are outraged by Warman's tactics. That they don't like like him is understandable.
I just heard about this in last couple of days and reading parts of the various filings by Warman against Free Dominion, I am revolted that this could go forward in a civilized country like Canada.
The Libel laws of Canada need reform from the level of Journalists right down to the private citizen.

Thanks- EdS ( our own Northern Right ) posted that on FD— no wonder this creep is encouraged to attack Free Dominion. Making money’s a powerful incentive.

Money almost has to be the real reason. He likely has suffered no real damages. I was reading some of the wording in the filing:
"The Posting in question contained serious allegations against the Plaintiff, clearly stating, in its plain and ordinary meaning or by virtue of surrounding circumstances which give the words a defamatory meaning inferentially or by innuendo that: "
I guess that is standard 'boiler plate'. If so it is so broad that practically any negative comment could be swept up for litigation. Poor Canada!!

linkI’ve talked to a lawyer who specializes in internet libel. He wants a $5000 retainer and $325/hr.
Come on Canadian FReepers!
I spend more time at FR, than FD, but I will fight for Free Dominion’s right to speak freely.
Who will match my $24?
$2 for each month of the year that free speech continues to be allowed in Canada?

Sticks and stones can break my bones, but words can never hurt me.
My Mother told me that.
Maybe we should be suing Richard Warman’s Mother.
She obviously didn’t teach him anything.

It looks like FD is infested with Warman trolls trying to rattle the Fourniers. They should banned post haste.
The Fourniers are not racists or White Supremacists, Warman's usual targets. This may not be as easy for him as trolls imply.

It’s the principal.
Free speech is worth much more than $2 a month, but it’s a start, eh?

Stop the CHRC -- It turns out that the HRC doesnt exist to safeguard human rights at all.
It exists to promote and carry out censorship.
"And, he says, when he had a conversation with a Commission employee, mediator Bob Fagan, about the specifics of the allegation, he was astonished at what he heard.
http://www.noapologies.ca/2007/11/news-for-nov-23-07.html
"'I told him that it seemed to be an abuse of the Human Rights Act for someone to try and use it as an instrument of censorship. And when I said that, on the phone, there was a pause and then he said, in a somewhat astonished tone: "But the Human Rights Act is about censorship." Then it was my turn to be silent on my end, because I found that breath-taking. For the Human Rights Commission's own mediator to acknowledge that censorship was the purpose of their Act."
